Study evidence for the effectiveness of Vitamin C, Zinc, Garlic, Probiotics, Echinacea and ....... Chicken Soup in reducing the incidence or recovery time for a cold is collated in this article by Clare Collins, Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Newcastle. Some interesting findings!

Chicken soup has come out on top in every study I have seen over the years. Growing up we got chicken noodle soup. Even though I'm a vegetarian now it's still the first thing that comes to mind when I don't feel well.

A friend, in my days as a music major, heard that keeping a clove of garlic tucked in your mouth would prevent a cold from getting worse. He found that all of us were giving him wide berth, and choir rehearsal that day in a crowded, hot room seemed endless. He still got the full blown cold, and a lot of teasing.

I thought that a significant factor behind better health from eating garlic was the reduced risk of infection from other people giving the garlic eater a wide berth :) .

Probably works like wearing a mask in public. Think I'll stick to the masks, though. They can be removed and you don't have to live with yourself when the risk passes!

Love the photo Neil.

Deffo chicken soup for me.

Sue

I don't know about anybody else, but when I'm sick or my husband is sick I make a pot of chicken soup with lots of garlic, I also add whatever I have on hand, like celery, carrots, noodles or rice, and sometimes potatoes if my husband says he wants them in the soup. Best thing about soup...........you can add whatever it is you fancy! And yes, it does help what ails you!
