Update on Round 2 FCR

Hi everyone!

As promised I would let you know how it's going. Round 2 was uneventful as well ! It was such a relief to not have any side effects. I noticed I was a little tired one extra day after chemo was done. First round I was tired and not so hungry for 2 days. This time it was 3 days. Don't know if it was due to first round I was admitted to hospital for the treatment so I was just hanging out and resting the whole time. Second time I went home each day so you end up throwing in a laundry, cooking... doing more in between treatment days. I will probably know after the 3rd. Neulasta shot was uneventful. Blood work great. Nodes shrunk, spleen not enlarged. Doc is very pleased. She even let me postpone a few days so that I can attend a family function and not worry about going or not after treatment for August treatment. I had a few scratches here and there... one from a run in with a branch to my foot. I healed just like I always did. I was so worried it would take a long time to heal. Might be something in future, but for now, minor healing still works. I continue to go to acupuncture to help with building my immune system and keep side effects away. It is relaxing so whether it is really doing anything or not, it is comforting.

After my 3rd the doctor said she would look at the blood work and probably order a scan along with the BMB. Would love to stop after that! But for now, happy I can make plans and as my nurse said, "just go out and live your life".

There was a glitch each time and I spoke up and it was done. When I was in the hospital, they didn't get the order to split the Rituxan. They checked with the doctor and an hour later I was back on track. The second time, I got the schedule a few days before and Rituxan was not split. I had them redo everything and it took a few days to get the ok from the insurance company. I guess every time you change something, they have to approve. My doctor doesn't seem to see a need for it, obviously her other patients never asked for it that way. She agreed and it was split.

When I met with her for my check up, I reminded her to make sure cycle 3 was split. She still said it wasn't necessary. I said why change something that is working so well? If I have to do the entire 6 cycles, I will think about trying the Rituxin in one day.

My hair is not growing as fast and slightly falling out more than usual. All my life my hair would shed. So I have noticed a little more on the brush and in the shower drain. Hopefully that remains the situation on hair loss. My skin has never looked better ! I had adult acne and it is gone! I think it might be the acyclovir? Ever since I started that, (before treatment) my skin is so clear. My port is doing well. No problems with that.

FYI- My gastroparesis hasn't been too much of a problem. Not having a great appetite the first two days after chemo normally is not a problem (no nausea) but when you have to eat 2500 calories a day, that can be frustrating. Decided not to worry about it and just ate when I got hungry. Lost a few pounds (which doesn't help me) but I got them back when I was back to eating my regular crazy diet.

Hope everyone has a great day !

I'm glad that your treatments are going so well. Great that you have a doctor who understands the importance of family functions!

My first dose of rituxan was split (I had rituxan monotherapy weekly x4 three times) each time I started, but not after the first infusion. I later found out that many, if not most, centers don't do that. If you don't react to the first infusion it is unusual to react to the following ones.

Keep us posted. I'm looking forward to more good news!
