For me personally, it did not touch my sinus infections. I took it a lot before I was diagnosed with CLL. Have not had a sinus infection since I started IVIG.

That is not the usual dosing. Usually 500 mg day 1 and 250 mg days 2-5. Being used less as resistance is increasing. Also most bronchitis doesn't require an antibiotic though in CLL over treatment is common to be safe.

I ended up with pneumonia last summer. I was on Augmentin but still had to be admitted to the hospital. All kinds of tests and antibiotics later they discovered I had mycoplasma which responds to Azythromycin. If I had only started out with a z pack I could have avoided the whole thing! Not sure about the dosage but from now on I want to start out with a z pack if I get bronchitis.

I've only been prescribed a Z pack once. It does not agree with my system. It's important to work with a doctor who knows you and how you react to meds. Also to have infections cultured if there is any question about what is going on. I wish I had known that years ago!

I felt like bronchitis was coming on a few weeks ago and went to the GP. I told the nurse practitioner i have CLL and would like a Zpac. She said it was probably viral and we should wait a few days to see if I ran a fever. I had to fight with her to get it but I finally did. Developed a cold but with zinc lozenges and a Zpac it only lasted 4 days, not the usual 3 or 4 weeks with bronchitis.

How do they know its bacterial infection, could be viral or fungal..without a swab and culture its a guess. CLL patients need to request a culture, we aren’t like the general population...

Hopeful it is bacterial and this works...

Hi Butitisme,

I was initially given Azithromycin 500 mgs in 2016 along with IVIG to cure a long series of lung infections that left me with Bronchiectasis. Now I take Azithromycin 250 mgs three days a week to treat the Bronchiectasis. There is no cure for Bronchiectasis, but treatment is important to help manage the condition. The main goal of treatment is to keep infections and bronchial secretions under control. It is also critical to prevent further obstructions of the airways and minimize lung damage.

This may seem like over use of Azrithromycin, but I am 74, have CLL, low Immunoglobulins, and have had allergic reactions to several different brands of IVIGs.

Hope you get better soon.

Owen

Hi Carney can you tell me more about your reactions to IVIG and which brands? I have a similar issue.

Janicelee,

I have had reactions to Privigen and Flebogamma. Nine Privigen infusions took place with no reactions but the tenth triggered a scary looking full body rash. We weren’t sure what caused the rash so I had another Privigen infusion and had a more immediate and worse reaction. The reaction to my only Flebogamma infusion was an immediate but milder upper body rash. The allergist I am seeing plans to start subcutaneous infusions this summer.

Hi Butitisme,

like CarneyUSA aka Owen, I take Azithromycin 3 times a week to control Bronchiectasis. This prescription for Azithromycin is effective because as well as being an antibiotic it is also an anti-inflamatory , appropriate for Bronchiectasis . Not sure about bronchitis.

Best wishes

Michael
