CLL with bad soar throat

Hi everyone, I would much appreciate your advice on my father's situation. He was diagnosed as CLL 2 years ago, currently he is at stage B and on W&W. He is visiting my family in U.K from China now and unfortunately met the coldest weather here: heavy snow for almost 1 week. He got very severely soar throat for past a few days and he barely cannot eat nor drink due to lots of pain. He is just on some sterpsils and salt water. As he doesn't have medical care in London, he is reluctant to see doctor here. I am rather worried about whether this infection will develop. He has no other cold symptom and no fever. May I know whether there is some effective over-the-counter medication that will be helpful on this case? will the antibiotics help? Should I persuade him to see the specialist? (not sure GP here will be much helpful). Many thanks in advance

Salt water gargles are pretty standard for minor sore throats, but if that isn't helping it would be a good idea for your father to be checked. If the sore throat is not treatment related I think that a GP should be able to do a throat culture to determine the best course of treatment.

Thanks a lot. We have already seen the GP and came back with some antiseptic pills. He is feeling better today!

Why don't you ring 111, and ask their advice. I am sure they can advise you what to do. As a visitor to this country there may be a charge which hopefully will be covered by insurance.

Please do not let it longer on.

I hope he soon feels better.

See a doctor! Worry about the money later.
