Reaction to test for Obinutuzumab

Yesterday I was to start cycle 1 of Obinutuzumab. They tried twice with test amount but I reacted both times within 5 mins of infusion. I had piriton before and after to counteract the reaction. I told them I never take piriton for allergies I prefer cetrine. They will try again today, my blood pressure readings are low but not lower than 90/30, they don’t go up to the 100/40 mark at all. I’m feeling very nervous already and I’m finding it hard to relax. Can anyone advise me please,

you've had a scary time with your reactions but it sounds as though the staff are good which must be reassuring. I'm sure they will be watching you like a hawk today and may try another anti histamine as different ones have different modes of action/targets.

Apparently more than 50% of first time obinutuzumab patients have some sort of reaction but almost all can be managed and reactions are much less common for subsequent infusions.

Thank you for your swift reply, jm954 I’m here in the day ward to have another test. I asked yesterday for a different antihistamine and I will try again today.

Did you only get an antihistimine? For my back to back day one and two doses (100/900) I got IV Benedryl -50 mg., Tylenol, and steroids, which is the protocol given on the official Gazyva site - scan to the bottom of the home page. After that I got one Tylenol and 10 mg of Claritin (added to the protocol by my doctor. I hope today was a better day! Obinutuzumab has worked very well for me.
