What are the health risks when your platelets are below 127 after a full blood count

Hi Dintar,

It depends on the reason for your reduced platelet count. I see you’ve already posted on having Typhoid which could account for reduced platelets. You’ve not mentioned having CLL so advice would differ. You need to seek a medical opinion on the thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) relating to your specific medical condition if you don’t have CLL. This explains the normal platelet range which our members with a blood cancer would refer to for reference;

The normal range for the two usual measurement standards are 150 to 450 or 150,000 to 450,000.

With low platelets, there's an increased risk of bleeding as follows (using the 150 - 450 range):

100 – 150 Little to no risk of bleeding

50 – 99 Increased risk of bleeding with injury

20 – 49 Risk of bleeding increased without injury. Spontaneous bruising will be seen (mostly on the arms and legs)

10 – 19 Risk of bleeding greatly increased

<10 Spontaneous bleeding likely

My platelets baseline had been 130 during remission so 127 may be your new normal depending on what you learn from medical consultation per Newdawn's recommendations. For now I encourage you to keep first aid supplies (bandages, antibiotic ointment etc) handy and promptly treat routine skin breaks and cuts.
