I have not been feeling well and went to dr. My WBC was at 76000 then next day had another test and it is at 86000. They say I may have a type of cancer. Has anyone had this blood count and have had cancer

Hi Papanana,

An elevated WBC to that extent needs further investigation to determine the cause. Your WBC is made up of quite a few different white blood cell types, each of which can increase to high levels in response to illnesses or allergies, or in rarer cases one of many different blood cancers. Your doctor has confirmed that your WBC has increased, I gather by 10,000 in one day, so I would expect that you should be promptly referred to a specialist - usually a haematologist, for further investigation and perhaps treatment.

This community supports those with just one of many blood cancers, CLL/SLL, which happens to be the most common (and also thankfully a chronic) blood cancer for older adults. The median age of diagnosis is early 70's, but it can rarely occur in people far younger. If you do end up with a CLL diagnosis, you'll be very welcome here. Otherwise, you may find another community better able to assist you.

Please let us know how you go.

Neil
