Elevated Temperature

Hi Everybody,

Hope you all had an enjoyable Easter.

Some advice please ? Have come down with a cold .not good. Body temperate around 38.3c for the past few days. Head cold and cough.

As I am on W & W for the past 16 months with last WBC of 54000 but stable. Should I go to ER or stick it out until after the Easter Hols.

If it were me, I would head to the ER to have it checked out. And the reason why is that you've had now for a couple of days, which means it could be an infection of some sort. I wouldn't sit on it. Once its checked out, you'll feel better knowing what is going on. Let us know how you make out!

You may have a secondary bacteria infection, for which you'll need antibiotics. In that case, delaying treatment will likely result in greater risk of complications - including pneumonia and a longer recovery period. Best seek medical assessment, particularly if your condition worsens. Make sure you use any provided facial masks at ER to both protect yourself from other infections and to protect others from your infection! Ask if you can't see any. Meanwhile, drink plenty of fluids and manage your symptoms so you can get adequate rest/sleep.

With respect to your WBC, that's immaterial. What's important are your neutrophil levels (to fight any bacterial infection) and your immunoglobulin levels (targeted fighting of the respiratory virus and any secondary bacterial and/or fungal infections).
