Thank you Elliot43,

I am passing this on to both our local medical centre and the local hospital emergency centre in case they are unaware of the critical contents included in this article.

There is always hope!

Very reassuring article thanks Sheila, including some interesting references. 'Sensitivity testing at the start of an infection should be standard practice.' If only...

And also if only this was standard practice too: 'Washing your hands after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, and before you eat, will reduce infection and the spread of bacteria in the first place.'

Also the final section - 'Keeping a record of the type of antibiotics you have been prescribed for an infection is also a good thing to do, so that if your infection comes back when you finish the course (indicating possible resistance), you can take a different type next time. With antibiotics, if it didn’t work the first time, it won’t work the second time. The more we do all these things without a second thought, the better'

I seem to need antibiotics 3 or 4 times a year - mainly through recurrent UTI's - and haven't previously noted which one was prescribed. From today this will be included in my 'health log' which I started in January.

Hi Neil, yes I thought it was a good sensible article. I know that you read the conversation too. I think it's a pretty good source of info which all the academics on board. Not that they're infallible!

I did see that sensitivity device trialed at a gp on a bbc health program last week. It was too expensive to buy for the practice... I guess that's the problem.

We can do out bit by passing on good info to our cll friends family and the wider community

Well David73 I would hope they are aware. Putting it in to practice is another thing? But yes I'm going to talk to my medical centre too. Altho my doc never offers antibiotics. And I never ask for them. Cos one day I might really need them. When I was admitted with sepsis during chemo they immediately put me on a drip of antibiotics, its routine practice. But I never asked them which one what sort etc, too sick I guess. We do have to trust sometimes. Our life in they're hands etc!!! Haha
