Need for irradiated transfusions following FCR
Hi Broadbent,
Yes, FCR is Fludarabin, Cyclophosphamide and Retuximab.
You were given irradiated blood because of the risk of transfusion associated graft versus host disease if it is not irradiated.
Most hospitals have a card you can carry to alert medics to this.
Best, rob
Hi Broadbent,
As Rob Oleboyredw-uk pointed out there is card (mine is red) that carries a warning for the use of irradiated blood. The text on the card states:
I am at risk of transfusion-associated-graft-versus-host disease. If I need to have a blood transfusion, cellular blood components (Red Cells and Platelets) must be irradiated.
There is another useful post from Chris Cllcanada that has more details of this card plus a number of other useful tips for carrying essential details about our health that will help professional clinicians in an emergency. It can be found on this link:-
