A week ago today I dressed up in my lovely blue dress and new polka dress shoes and went for my final day trip to the Phoenix Unit Sunderland for a bit of Fcr.
The chair was comfortable and the nurse warm and reassuring...I was on an unatural high! Very excitable ! I told everyone it was my last round... even the cleaner who then gave me the biggest hug! The infusion was slow and I watched it drip in ...knowing it had had good effect.
At about 2.00pm my eldest son turned up to support me and hubby... and celebrate the last round. This set the water works away! 45 mins later I was finished... ready to leave... To step back into life. As I left the nursing team escorted me to THE BELL..Where I stood and rang it as loudly as I could. chemo complete !
What a 6 months. ... I am pulling round nicely after those disgusting chemo tablet's. I am going to take things easy.. recover from this round and take care knowing I will be neutropenic for a good part of the month.
My consultant is delighted with the results... Having had a scan after round 4 . so much so he is not repeating the scan as the results couldn't have been better! I have lots of questions but for now I am breathing in and slowly breathing out... thankful and grateful for so much... x

Thats great news. I hope you can enjoy chrisrmas with renewed vigour. I am newly diagnosed and your posts have really inspired and helped me. You mention you have children. Can i ask how did you tell them about Cll. I also have children but havent tole them yet. Any tips?
Ha ha thanks. im a geordie born and bred but now live in leicestershire. My goal is to return to the north east im originally from the blaydon area. thanks for that my -children are 12 / 16/ 21. im also a single parent so worry if anything happens. i feel its unfair to tell my oldest who is a student as it may overburden her. the one who is 16 has gcses this summer. never a good time.
Thanks. hope he is enjoying his time here. ive been here for 30years. leicester is up and coming the city has improved a lot and has a nice feeling, lots near. i do miss the coast though amble to bamburghx
I like the idea of the bell - I wonder if any other centres do this?
I wonder what our 'resident experts' think about having 6 rounds, when apparently all was well after 4 - do centres always give the 'full treatment', or can they stop it if they feel the response is already good enough? I have no idea how these decisions are taken.
I'm sure the experts know what they're doing. I was only offered - and had - 4 rounds of BR, but maybe that's different to FCR for some reason... in any case I'm 4 years into a complete remission - hope you have excellent results too!
Great news Bethan! Every hospital in our area has a 'bell' for cancer patients. I was with my neighbor in for treatment the other day and we heard the bell ring. The whole place broke into applause. We all knew what that meant! Merry Christmas to you all.
