Vigorous physical activity may lower risk of NHL

CLL/SLL is classified as one of the many Non Hodgkin's Lymphomas (NHL), so I was interested to read that people that engage in vigorous physical activity may have a lower risk of developing NHL:

hematologytimes.com/p_artic...

“We know that being physically active reduces the risk of colon cancer and breast cancer, and also leads to a range of other physical and mental health benefits,” said study author Terry Boyle, PhD, of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

“Our findings suggest that people who do vigorous physical activity may also have a lower risk for NHL.”

The article concludes that more research is needed to verify the study results and mentions plans to investigate whether physical activity influences the risk for different types of NHL in different ways.

It might be too late for us, but perhaps this news could encourage our children to hopefully counteract their higher risk of developing familial CLL by undertaking regular vigorous physical exercise. They'll still gain from the other recognised benefits of exercise.

Food for thought,

Neil

It's not too late for us in all cases I think? If we are up to it, vigorous core temperature raising exercise for at least 4-5 times a week helps in making our internal environment including our blood, hostile to pathogens. There is a lot of information on many excellent sites on strategies such as exercise, hyperthermia in helping us to live as well as possible with this malignancy.

I am a fitness freak and have done vigorous physical exercise daily for 60 years. I was diagnosed with CLL 5years ago. As my consultant suggested "it is the luck of the draw"

However keeping fit must help in coping with any illness.
