Hi all! I have just had my 3 monthly blood test results back. Can anyone tell me what they mean regarding how well or badly I am doing please? I was diagnosed 2 years ago. Many thanks....

Hi Jen,

To have a reasonable look at the blood test results you should compare them over a longer term that just a single observation. That way you get a view of the trends rather than a point in time.

What many of us do is put them into a spreadsheet each time we collect them, then it is easier to see what is happening. It doesn't have to be a spreadsheet on a computer if you'd prefer not to. Having it laid out on a piece of paper can work for some.

You can find out information about the 'normal ranges' on the CLLSA website ... cllsupport.org.uk/ There is a document there, but currently I cant seem to access the site at all. It is also documented in the pinned posts here - look for this entry from Hairbear .... "Recently diagnosed? Easy read patient friendly UK resources to help you begin your journey"

I take my table that I've been building up over the last 2.5 years each time I see my consultant to compare that day's results with the previous.

Jen, best to track your absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) for the best view of CLL progression... over time.

Usually counts bounce around test to test, certainly with a white blood cell count (WBC) under 30K, so look for trending..

Whilst it doesnt seem common, my printouts from hospital (The Christie, Manchester, UK) report Absolute Lymphocyte Count as LYM).

Jen, I think many here would be happy to have the results you've published. Your haemoglobin might be a bit low, but then again, that might be normal for you. As others have said, you need to look for trends.
