Jill there are two issues firstly stent(s) are put in place during an angioplasty to clear a blocked or restricted coronary artery. Separately statins are used to reduce high levels of cholesterol which actually causes the build up of plaque which results in a restricted or blocked blood vessels. Whether your Dr. prescribes statins will depend on the level of your cholesterol checked by a blood test not whether you have had stents, but I think probably if you've had stents, your cholesterol will still be at a high level to warrant the use of statins. Once you are on them you will be on them for the rest of your life to keep your cholesterol under control. That would be my understanding although I'm not a medical professional.

I had a heart attack and was put constraints. A year after the level of stations was lowered to half, my last cholesterol check showed my cholesterol level had dropped and the last check shows my old level to be 1.5,if the next check shows the same I will no longer have to take statins.

thanks mags,, so some people can come off them then if the cholestrol is low enough,, wow ,, 1.5 seems so low,, do you actually eat any fats at all,, like do you have butter on your sandwiches etc..?..........sounds like your level of cholestrol was really low before the HT..it makes you think doesn't!!

Hi . I had two stents fitted 20 months ago after a mild heart attack and i did go on atorvastatin for 12 months i had such bad side affects .I also tried atorvastatin .still had bad side affects so asked to come off them to see what would happen 8 months later and after blood tests my cholesterol level has gone from 4.2 too 5.9. i am now about to try another statin at a lower dose for 3 months to see what happens.it really is trial and error and getting the balance right
