Interesting piece of research here reported on BBC bbc.co.uk/news/health-21805395

People with cardiovascular disease who are obese, smoke and don't exercise are less likely to die from their illness than normal weight patients who smoke or are inactive.

Good news is that those who exercise and don't smoke are less likely to die whatever their weight. Roast dinner anyone??

This is the original article.

jama.jamanetwork.com/articl...

It took results from a lot of studies and put them together. It found that people who are very obese tend to die earlier than people who are not, and that being slightly overweight does not mean you will die early. It does not give any explaination, it's not that kind of study.

It's not very helpful as far as I can see, except it probably shows that BMI may not be a very useful idea.
