I'm currently renewing my annual travel insurance, and I noticed that one of the conditions on pre existing conditions is" Have you been referred to a specialist consultant". Well, I was referred to my local lipid clinic for re--assessment of my type of cholesterol" Dos that count as a "specialist consultant?"

Thanks. I checked with my present insurance company with whom I have annual cover and told them about my hospital visit. There was no problem covering it and no additional premium.

Yes it does and although it doesn't really matter it would be a get out clause if you needed to claim and had not told them.

A friend of mine went to the "old Eastern Bloc" countries on a tour a few years ago and had his blood pressure medication confiscated because they didn't allow it into one of the countries (I can't remember which one now)!!!!! If anyone is going anywhere "different" than usual, on, say an "adventure" holiday it would be a good idea to make sure you can take your medication with you!!!

Also take a copy of the prescription (if your GP will allow you to have one, or if you have time to confuse them into giving you one) or at least a printed repeat prescription request or some consultant letter mentioning it. I've only ever had to show it once - and that wasn't at one of the borders I'd been warned about!
