Welcome to the Cholesterol forum. As you have seen from Londinium's reply there are many knowledgeable people here you are ready to help.

I would follow her guidance especially in posting your detailed lab results.

In general, people are always looking for shortcuts for dealing with their medical issues. Red yeast is one such 'hack' but it does have side-effects and will not, on its own resolve your medical issues.

Elevated cholesterol levels is the body's normal response for dealing with an inflammatory condition.

An inflammatory condition is caused by an unbalanced diet and insufficient exercise.

If you already have a hypothyroid condition, there is a high probability that it is related to a diet with excessive sugar, simple carbohydrates and processed foods.

Changing to a Mediterranean Diet that is based on eating whole foods, and focuses more on legumes, vegetables, whole fruits, and less on animal protein, will move you toward better health.

Watch this informative video on foods that will help you normalized your cholesterol values:

Sugar exists in almost all processed foods as it is a preservative and it enhances flavour. It is best to prepare your own food and avoid fruit juices, soft-drinks and even diet soft-drinks. Water or natural sparkling water are your best beverages along with certain teas, especially Green tea, Peppermint, Holy Basil and Nettle Leaf tea, among others.

Good luck.

Hi Yasu,

I looked Red Rice Yeast up on Drugs.com as well as spoke to my GP about it.

It may be a vitamin, but it has identical ingredients to Lovastatin..

Check with your doctor and see if it is right for you.

Let me know the outcome!

^^ This. Plus also, as a food, the active ingredient dose isn't as tightly controlled as Lovastatin. If you react to statins, you'll probably suffer on red rice yeast too.

Full-flush niacin (minor side-effects), curcumin and high doses of vitamin C also help reduce inflammation as well as LDL-C and elevate HDL-C. That said, focus on eliminating processed foods, sugar and simple carbohydrates.
