Millions given statins 'just in case' are wasting their time and don't receive any benefit, study finds

•Research found no evidence that they make any difference to low-risk patients

•All over-75s have been eligible to take statins since 2014 even if they are healthy

•The news threatens to inflame the row about the pros and cons of the drugs

The big question is who receive benefit from STATIN?

Yes - I cannot support the "just in case" situation regarding statins. Seeing as how the risk of a car accident is probably greater than that of a heart incident, who would take the advice of "don't leave the house" -- just in case!! :) Bit like the over-prescription of antibiotics for things like colds (which are viral)

Yeah :) - I found it. I also found the free Android App which has all the magazines of the American Heart Association in it Read the first mag and it had an article about penile dysfunction due to heart problems -- I had no need to read it!! :)

I’ve taken statin for 3 years, couldn’t stand the pains in my stomach so went to see doctor she halved my dose on the understanding I have a blood test 6 months down the line, as soon as I left the surgery I stopped taken them, the pains went away after a few weeks, I went back for my blood test expecting the worst but my cholesterol was down to 4.3 and in fact the doctor said I had beaten type 2diabetes, I don’t take any meds now. Get off them as soon as you can, I’m 65.

If you look at the statistics produced by ONS [UK] the morbidity through CVD and all cause morbidity have been declining over the years. If one also looks at the prescriptions for statin drugs, you would expect to see a change to the gradient of the line in proportion to the number of statin prescriptions there is no perceptible change. Any change in gradient of CVD is taken up by a corresponding change in all cause morbidity. i.e. if Statins do anything to prevent CVD then there is a corresponding increase in Cancer or some other cause of death. There are studies in Japan that show the higher the cholesterol post 60 the longer you live.

That is because, statistically speaking, 100% of all human beings eventually die - regardless of whether they take statins or not :) youtube.com/watch?v=WdEoput...

But my point is that statins make no difference to life expectancy from CVD
