Can't really simply refer to high carb diet - because it depends on what kind of carbs we are talking about - everything from a mouthful of processed white sugar through to wholegrains. Unfortunately many people who followed the low fat/ high carbs diet took that to mean carbs made from processed wheat flour laced with yummy sugar , washed down by sweet sodas. :) You only have to visit any modern day supermarket to see all the liquid and solid processed HighGI carbs being sold. When you base a diet around these , you will be in for trouble.

Personally I subscribe to the idea of a "balanced and moderate" diet - and the idea of needing three major macronutrients -- fat, protein and carbohydrates. fitday.com/fitness-articles... I tend to instinctively keep away from "all or nothing" type theories :)

Very interesting article Bazza - some excellent points to bear in mind and to come to a balanced view.

I think our perception of 'healthy' is what has been deliberately distorted - by some original but poorly conducted science back in the '50s which strongly influenced marketing, policy makers and public.

Fake news is not a new phenomena - evidently.

I am so fed up with black and white thinking!

I`m always hearing about people who jog regularly dropping dead from heart attacks, so maybe running isn`t so healthy an activity after all.

Yes - many do -- but not so many as those who drop dead while NOT doing any exercise :) Same goes for the myth about runners getting "bad knees" - not as many bad knees as those obese people who don't run!! :)

If your`e genetically predisposed to heart disease, then running for miles won`t make much difference.

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
