How are all these related to cholesterol?

when are we going to learn more about LDL-C?

I think that I only just now figured the total cholesterol formula out.

it is the sum of LDL, HDL plus app. 40% of Tric if using UK measures.

The US measures show the sum of HDL, LDL, plus 20% of the Tric value.

I just got my cholesterol results - without statins.

LDL 3.1, HDL 1.7, TRIC .9, TOTAL CHOLESTEROL 5.2

Good news Ursa. How did you managage that and what was it to start with.

Total Cholesterol was 4.4 about a year ago, when I was taking statins.

The GP I saw yesterday thought that the increase was worrying - I think that she was probably not too familiar with my medical history -.

The highest it had ever been, without statins, was 6.9

I think that I am one of Sir Rory's victims who had to suffer severe statins side effects because of NICE guidelines. They are still trying to push statins down people's throat with a TC above 4.

Hi, I know what you mean. Mine is 8.2 but I am not convinced statins is the answer and have said no to them.

Hi,

Thanks, as an ex IT trainer I like to ask questions for others to learn. At the moment I am in Singapore, every day there is medical discussion with my brother who is 85, a professor and a surgeon! In the last three years I have learned a lot and am still learning. The three numbers, BP, LDL-C and HbA1C is what people in Singapore are discussing, not total cholesterol.

The last five weeks my food intake (blue top milk, cheese, coconut oil and rich food!) has been very different!, due for blood test early December. Only time will tell.

I think that the Total Cholesterol number is pretty meaningless.

My blood sugar level is normal, but I had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes two years after commencing statins treatments. I never took any medication.

I do take medication for hypertension.

So, how would my results be interpreted in Singapore?
