Is he on commission?

This bit was interesting though. .

"Statins have benefits other than just lowering cholesterol. Statins have anti-inflammatory properties"

The cholesterol hypothesis is definitely losing ground, the BHF have now started talking about statins being anti inflammatory and anti coagulant, not just lowering cholesterol. Statins are anti inflammatory and anti coagulant, that's why they work for some people. However plenty of other things are anti inflammatory and anti coagulant, aspirin for example.

Aspirin given long term isn't harmless, but I'd take it in preference to a statin.

Be careful what you believe.Do your research from both the positive and the negative effects of statins.Personally i think you can spin anything in your favour if you have the financial muscle to influence policy decisions concerning health interventions. You only have to look at the research behind Ansell Keys theories on fat in relation to heart disease to see a study that was manipulated to prove the criteria for his hypothesis and yet the countries that he neglected to show totally disproved his theory in a major way.So began the path of the low fat no fat diets that have bought us to where we are now with an explosion in diabetes worldwide.Never mind though because at least we have big pharma to help all those poor sick people.KERCHING.

Interestingly along with the 'benefits' comes a lot of other baggage. This from spacedoc.com:

spacedoc.com/unusual-epidem...

See the paragraph starting 'Kidney graft patients' then move on to this:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

The gist being that along with the benefits of immune suppressant helping the graft to take, comes the reduction in immune response to incipient cancer.

The study doesn't look so hot now viewed under this lens!

So that got you all Going.

Personally I take statins and aspirins.

But I am alive and that's what matters.

Its been 2 years now since my heart attack so I feel I am ready emotionally to start a reduction. I haven't been up to now.

Interesting the spin inputs. Are you not also spinning.

The anti Statin brigade do only believe the research they want to believe so it is hard to make a judgement.

We all have our own beliefs based on what we choose to believe. Some people will swear by statins and some will stay clear of them because of the documented long term side effects.I personally in in the latter group, because i believe their are much better natural health supplements out there.

I don't know what circumstances caused your heart attack, but I am pretty sure a lack of statins was not the cause.

I was not saying that. I was saying I don't know but I am open to see any options. Not closed off to any options. At the moment I am fine with it all, later I may change my thoughts because i am open.
