Palpitations may be brought on by overexertion, stress, anxiety, panic, adrenaline, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, cocaine, amphetamines, and other drugs, disease or as a symptom of panic disorder and many other factors.

You need to go to your GP soon for a check up. Please do a quick check and count how many pulse are missing, make a note of it to discuss it with your GP. Good luck.

First and foremost, have you been to your GP to find out if there is any health problem? If you have, and there is no underlying cause to your irregular pulse, then it could be laid at the door of STRESS. Caffeine also has an adverse affect on the pulse. It can become erratic as the caffeine (which is a drug after all) courses round the blood stream and raises the BP levels. So, have a body service from your GP, then start a low caffeine diet with an eye to having a daily walk in the fresh air. Make it part of your daily regime, despite the cold and the weather in general now, a walk in the cold, wrapped warmly, makes you glow from the inside out and you feel fantastic when you get home! This should encourage the endorphins in the body to rise and help to calm your stress levels and your pulse should become slower and more regular. Best wishes to you

I've had palps for years and recently found out they are caused by eating certain foods, particularly foods which cause me acid reflux such as wheat and high sugar foods. They can be very worrying but almost always benign. However you should see your GP about this as they may want to refer you for tests to be on the safe side.
