Hello,

I was diagnosed on the 5th nov with a svt, "How did this come about?", Were you taken to A&E?

It is a long time to wait for an appointment, I am sorry to you have to wait for a long time for your next appointment.!, All the test you had done, any problems? are you on any medication?

May be the problem is under control with medication? Would you be able to get a referral to go private?

I was doing the dishes (Ha Ha) Seriously I was doing the dishes then all of a sudden I felt as if I had been hit with a spade across the whole of my chest I became breathless and in awful pain, I was by myself I couldn't get hold of anyone, I was finally able to call nhs 24, they called an ambulance for me,cutting a long story short I was taken to hospital A&E they stopped my heart then restarted it again.

I have test appointments this week, but I am worried that I am not going to get resuls for 10 monthsand that I could have another SVT or even something more serious, Unfortuneately I cannot go private. I am becoming quite depressed .

Thank you for replying

Liz

Hi Liz.....sounds awful, but an isolated incident...for now. You say you will be having more tests this week so that's good. The results of those tests should be sent to your GP, if there is cause for concern your GP or the hospital should contact you. In my opinion the way forward is for you to see your GP and make sure they will inform you of any results and ask if they will chase results up from the tests as soon as they become available. Any good GP would do this as a matter of course, but let them know you are anxious just to be sure and it should happen. Stress is a major factor in exacerbating conditions of the heart so do all you can to keep it to a minimum. Hope you get on OK and remember that lots of people deal with arrhythmias successfully.

Hi Liz,

Thanks. I am worried about my wife and her high heart rate when we are in the gym, the readings on the gym machines. Only last month my wife started to go to the gym wit me. Have seen the GP, GP did mention if the pulse were a bit different, I would have called an ambulance! waiting for 24-hour heart monitor, going for a health MOT.

It is very difficult to discuss things with a medical person! prevention is better thane cure, I used to hear every day.

I am better prepared now.

Thanks.

Hi Bala....shouldn't be difficult to discuss things with your GP or hospital consultant if you get that far....that's what they are there for. If you can't discuss with your GP then see a different one, the good ones will understand your concerns and your need to ask questions.

SVT's are usually not dangerous and tests will have been performed to ascertain this. Most people have little or no symptoms and SVT's are found when investigating something else. Unfortunately worrying about SVT's can and quite often does make it worse, so please try to relax as this will help you. If you are worried about the length of wait see your GP or ask him to ring you. Or you could write to the consultant/doctor's secretary and voice these worries. Good luck with your problem and I hope you are part of the vast majority who are fine with this slight problem.

Thank you all so much for your advice and help from everyone who has written to me.
