Hello,

The above is new to me therefore had a look on the Internet.

Please take a look at this link:

It appears that before any procedure you need to inform the doctor that you had valve repair and to avoid any infection you need to take medication before the procedure. Good luck.

Hi bala ,

Thank-you for your info and for sending the link too.

I recently found some info too. There is some conflicting advice ,it appears ,without causing too much confusion on the issue here as Hospitals in the UK follow the Guidelines by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) that anti-biotic prophylaxis is..... No Longer required for any post surgical valve patients for Dental Treatment NICE guideline are the approved guidelines for hospitals in the UK .

But Not All NHS Hospitals in the UK have the same advice .

Other NHS Hospitals recommend the American Heart Association (2007) advice for

Anti-biotics..... they state in some circumstances Are Required before dental procedures:

which the following link explains :

heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditio...

The NHS Hospital where i had surgery Advices to follow the The American Heart Association 2007.

Hospitals and Surgeons in the UK do, it appears, tend to give different

advice.

The following link explains NICE Guidelines info for the UK recommended in March 2008 that antibiotic prophylaxis should No Longer be offered routinely for all patients at risk of infective endocarditis undergoing dental and a wide range of other invasive procedures:

nice.org.uk/newsroom/news/A...

*Always check with your Surgeon and Dr and Dentist for updated advice*

Thanks again bala .

Just to add to my Reply ,AND This does go against NICE Guidelines 2008.

I follow this advice (Personally) After Mitral Valve Repair with Prosthetic Material: After consulting with a few Heart Surgeons in the UK I have been told "Cardiac Surgeons see at Operation the devastating damage caused by Endocarditis and hence take the view "better safe than sorry" when advising Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Dental Treatment for High Risk Patients."

Which is Also advised with the American Heart Organisation at

heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditio...

Always check with your Surgeon locally for his/her advice.

But it's also up to you to make your decision for Dental Treatment if your High Risk which is exlained in American Heart Organisation.

You can see the Differing views also below in

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/249...
