A wake up call is a good thing to have. Whatever the reasons - at least your hospital visit has made you aware of the possible problem. Did the hospital not give you information as to what level your cholesterol should be? Is this an inherited problem. As we are all individuals, there are so many answers to your questions. hEART UK gives knowledgeable advice and information by trained staff. Suggest you look at their site.

they said just over 5 but i was still in shock being in hospital.........it was a real kicking for me.........they said i would need medication.......another major shock........so thats coming weather i like it or not............so now im looking at my diet when i can clear my head and get back to work..........this should of been dealt with over 7 years ago when i had real problems,it came as a big shock as i started reducing my blood pressure because id been hitting a gym over the last 7 months and making real progress..........it knock me off my feet totally............so what should my cholesterol be........i mean nobody has really given me real answers..............but i will push for them.........and yes im very grateful for the hospital doctors giving me their support..........sadly this is just a small part of my issues but i need to start somewhere first...........and thankyou for your time

When working out at the gym you should also be considering what you put into your body.As strenuous exercise causes inflammation in the body that can lead too oxidation in the arteries. It is well known now that cholesterol is present in every cell in the body aiding the repair process.Hence the reason that people can have perfectly normal cholesterol and yet still have heart and vascular problems.I supplement my diet with a high quality chlorophyll supplement and arginine supplement which helps me reduce the risk from inflammation of the arteries. It also increases the amount of magnesium in the body even though there is no magnesium in the either product.

i have recently had chlorophyll mixed with water as a powder......but by a friend and id never really took too much notice........the gym was intense training on a fat burn setting..........id also lost weight of 6kg down to 70 kg..........and drink a recovery miner drink mixed with water...........i actually feel so much better for the exercise.........but the docters were not happy with the unbalanced heart beat...........naturally it hit me hard........i hope i can find a balance before things hit me harder...............i will try.............

I`m shocked that someone would end up in hospital for a cholesterol reading of only 5. My last reading was much higher than that, & my doctor never mentioned hospitalisation!

they wanted to test my arteries because of past issues and because my heart was not beating consistently.........some damage was done around one artery........but i was also told ,i could have some genetic issue with the heart beating etc......... it was not my doctor,he did nothing, told me to take a self sick note........crazy.........it was the nurses in the surgery who helped with my health issues..........

Sorry to be nosey, did you have a heart attack or just a test that showed blocked arteries. A cholesterol level of 5 is completely normal, so don't worry about that.

We have all had different medical experiences on this forum so hopefully you will find some answers.

for diabetic people under 3 and others under 4 is fine.

i had no idea..........but do believe i had several stokes 7 years ago.........i also believe the body can repair its self............but poor life style etc can again catch you out in life.............so i had issues over the heart not beating properly etc..........and so on ..........a nurse picked up on this.........then the heart docter who i saw 7 years ago ,had me tested again and within three weeks im in..........and now this is so on going............but thankyou kindly for concern and help..........being anywhere near a hospital was a total shock........i do however believe some of these issues could be an imbalance of minerals in my body........and maybe some stress etc..............im now digging hard..........

i had some corrosion in one artery and had to have them checked out etc,in hospital ...........i had issues over 7 years ago.......with a recent test with pads on my chest etc they found out my heart was not beating properly.........and in truth i noticed this in the past..........plus from time to time id get this shock when sleeping..........past issues of poor diet, high salt, sugars, fats has not helped naturally..........but ive been quite active in a gym so i was completely, shocked...........im so grateful for the replies........magnesium is a major issue and has now been on my mind..........this is going to be so on going for me.........but i will test the waters of all up coming facts..........and thankyou you for help and feedback, its valued deeply...........

Do you smoke? I was in a coronary ward next bed to a guy of 40 with the same problem and they told him it was because he was a smoker. He didn't drink though.

ive never smoked...........but they are concerned over my unbalance heart beat..........things are so on going............

in reply to dav67

Yeah, try to not be concerned still make sure it gets dealt with. I've had a heart arrhythmia for probably 20 years. I've had a couple of painless ops that just took a day and a few pills. May be due for a pacemaker and not worried about that now I know how they work.

The 40 year old I was in the ward with, was out in a few days. They cleared him out, put him on some pills, sent him home. He felt much better and younger afterwards as he realised it was the glogging-up that was causing him problems, getting tired etc.

PS. If you've got an irregular heart beat, there is a special forum for this (AFA) on this site.

Try not to worry too much about the unbalanced heart beat. My husband had something similar and was fitted with a pace-maker, which solved the problem.

Thanks for that. We shall investigate further.

Iv`e been diagnosed with a condition called 1st degree heart block about 3 years ago, was told that it`s harmless, but I often worry that it`ll get worse, & i`ll need a pacemaker in the future. Iv`e read that this condition is common in athletes, but Iv`e never been particularly athletic,so I wonder how I got the condition. There`s no family history as far as I can tell.
