Hi Mike,

I'm getting an error message saying the message cannot be found or has moved. Can you share the main points? Thanks

Try These:

spacedoc.com/malcolm_kendri...

spacedoc.com/benefits_chole...

I've tested the links and they work.

Cheers Mike. Brilliant articles. I will use this information when I next see my GP in two weeks time. He intends to advise me, following consultation with my cardiologist, on alternative drugs to reduce my cholesterol as it has been painfully proven that I cannot tolerate any Statin drugs. I now feel well armed to be able to reject medication and clearly state that I want to look at dietary measures to improve my cardiac health. I am so grateful to have found this forum and to benefit from the information you all bring to it.

Thanks Florence,

I emphasise, don't take my word for it, dig, dig dig. The web puts information into the hands of the concerned who then will not be awed by the oracle of the medical status quo.

There are plenty of other drugs that can be used if you can't tolerate statins or have a family history of muscle disorder.

I regularly read Dr Kendrick and Dr Briffa, but you must understand that they are both statin sceptics , as is the spacedoc. site. Just go in with your eyes open, that's all.

Thanks Aliwally. I understand your concerns that forum members may have been influenced in a negative way regarding taking medication and I appreciate your concern. Thank you. My concern is not taking drugs per se (I already take five different meds every day for BP and CAD), it is that I have wanted the opportunity to try diet as a means of improving my cardiac health and cholesterol but have so far been denied this opportunity. I will be happy to take further medication if I am unsuccessful. The forum has allowed me to learn enough to make an informed choice and be able to have a detailed discussion with my GP. I think Saddness's explosive entry and exit from the forum has had a slightly unsettling effect on us all!

Thanks for this. I have successfully used the South Beach diet in the past for weight loss, losing 21/2 stone, although I have no idea how it impacted on my cholesterol levels and cardiac health. It is a very similar diet to the one you describe. I had struggled with my weight having reached middle age and all that brings with it. No other diet worked for me. I remembered as a young child and teenager/twenty something that my own natural preferences when eating were low carb, high protein and vegetable and I had remained very slim at that time, so the low carb diet seemed to match up to this well. I now just need to knuckle down and get on with it.The reason that I don't want to try other medication just yet, is that I would never know if I would have been successful in achieving health in this more natural way. It is always harder when having to cook for others who enjoy eating carbohydrates and manage to remain slim and healthy while doing so!
