Hi,

I have been on Lipitor, Atorvasation 20mg to lower my cholesterol for eight weeks now. I do not feel sick, I eat and drink as before, but the side effect I have is pain. Boy real pain. I am putting up with it till my next bllod test ans it is at the end of June.

Thanks for reply.

My advice is to come off it straight away. The last statin I was on I had to stop it with pains in my muscles. As soon as I stopped they were gone in 3 days.

Speak to your doctor and try another statin. There are many on the market and one of them will suit you.

I would say stop taking them....the benefits of taking statins does not warrant the side effects. Also do your research, unless there is a very good reason for taking statins don't....in my opinion the jury is most definately out on whether anyone should be taking a medication that alters every cell and every process in the body.

Hi Everyone, My husband has just got back from the Drs with Atorvastatin 10 mg. Just had a result of 6 Total Cholesterol. Lower than mine but he is on tablets for high BP. Everything else is OK. Anyone give me any gen. on the side effects of said Statin so I can be prepared to help him if he has them?

Hi. patch14. I was on Atorvas 10 mg for 6 weeks, side effects were very bad muscle pain in arms shoulders and neck, told my GP stopped takin them, yes after 2 or 3 days pain gone. I had a TIA last year so have been advised by my consultant to be on some form of statin and a clopidogrel. all 3 statins taken so far have had bad side effects,GP has now put me on 10mg Ezetimibe, this does not work on the liver to lower cholestral, so far am ok, have to see GPin another 4 weeks.

Pain is worst side effect, hope your husband is ok with his.

Rgards. allyg.

Hi Patch,

For me atorvastatin was actually the best one. I took 10mg for about a year and of course it dramatically lowered my TC. After a year or so I started to get pain and stiffness in the small joints of my fingers, so much so that I thought I was getting arthritis. It was also affecting my work as I do a lot of notetaking for students.

I am not saying that your husband or anybody else will get this on atorvastatin and I am surprised that this particular side effect took so long to appear. My fingers are about 90% better since I stopped taking it.

Aliwally, did you get prescribed anything else when you stopped the Atorvastatin? I've been prescribed 10mg as Choles level was 7.5 but came the tabs brought it down to 6.4. I go for bloods tomorrow morning to see if it has come down any further or the nurse said they will need to increase the dose. I don't want a higher dose and don't want to take them at all. I also feel like I'm getting arthritis, mine is more in my lower arms and fingers feel like they're not my own and tingle. I type a lot and thought it was that but reading your post rings true to the symptoms I have. The medical ppl say my raised level isn't down to my lifestyle but hereditary. I'd like to come off them but obviously worry about having lots of tia's and strokes like my mum did.
