When people say to me "You don't look as though you have high blood pressure" - what am I supposed to 'look' like?!

I guess people would expect you to be over weight and unfit if you have high blood pressure, and you aren't.

OK thanks, I thought maybe I was supposed to have a purple/red face and have steam coming out of my ears or something, I know there are no visible signs of hbp but had wondered what other people perceived as a 'high blood pressure profile'.

My sister has high BP. She is fit, healthy, has not smoked since the 1960s, eats a good diet and is the right weight for her height!! She was diagnosed 5 years ago at the age of 63. She does not have a red face or gout or any of the other "usual" symptoms of high BP! (I think we have this preconception of the high drinking, high living, overweight male with the beer belly and the "gentleman farmer" look about him!!) The thing that the GP said to my sister was that she was stressed. A working single Mum all her working life, an income that did not give her the retirement income she would have liked (she still does work from home at an age when most women are now able to take it easier) - all of this has contributed.
