Can I give blood with high cholesterol? Can the new blood that is produced to replace the blood that was given be free of cholesterol?

Hi,

I have been a few times to give blood and have had different reactions. Once was a few months after i started to take statins and they advised that i needed to have taken the medication for approx 6 months before i could give blood. another time i went and they weren't that keen for me to give blood with high cholesterol as it could cause problems with storing the blood. another time i have been and given blood fine.

i am not a medical professional, but surely any blood is better than none!

I have been a blood donor for years. I have FH and take statins. They have always been happy to take my blood despite both these factors. Not sure about the new blood being cholesterol free - it will just mix with the blood already circulating in your body and the liver will just continue to produce more cholesterol I would think.
