Hi Suzie, I also have a big scar on my left cheek too following skin cancer surgery in November, which I now feel has been badly botched. I had something called a Lentigo Maligna growing horizontally. It was Red, flat, and sometimes shiny and about 1"x1". Above it, I had an a Brown sort of age mark, which was totally unrelated. Two dermatologists told me that the Brown mark was harmless. When I went to the plastic surgery unit, instead of cutting out the Red lesion, the surgeon cut almost vertical 3"incision, and took a big slice of my face off, from just under my eye socket to my jowl. It was not at all what I was expecting from what I was told by the consultant plastic surgeon. I believe that they centered the surgery around the Brown mark. Because it was cut vertically, they missed the outer edges of the skin cancer, and have sewn it into my scar. Now that the bruising has settled, I believe that I can actually still see part of the Red lesion still there right in the middle of my scar. The amount of skin taken has changed my face a lot too, I'm 64 and I look like I had a facelift, but only on the left side. I no longer have the age lines on that side, but of course I still do on the other side. I am devastated, and just before Christmas, I heard from them that the histology report says they didn't get the margins of good skin and they want to carve another 10mm along the same 3" incision. I went to the surgery appointment, but I didn't let them do it until I've got an opinion from the dermatologist.I don't sleep, I cry all the time, and I can't think about anything else save how I've been mutilated.
