Sunhats or scarves?

Standing waiting for the bus with cold toes and a cold nose, I got to thinking about whether anyone here feels that their relationship with their visible difference changes with the seasons. Do you find that different times of the year bring different challenges?

For sure. I much prefer winter because I can bundle up and even wear scarves or hats with flaps that hide my face. In fact I hate summer so much, mostly because the wind could blow my hair back at any moment, that I stopped going to outside events over a decade ago.

Not really, other than that due to having radiation I'm conscious about sun, especially in the summer. For me it's different times of day. I wish I could hide behind sunglasses all the time so I prefer being out and about during the day.

That's interesting - it sounds like both of you enjoy being able to choose how much to show and how much to hide with clothes and accessories, and that some times and seasons make that choice easier than others.

I like bundling up in a big coat and scarf, too, but cold weather can make my left side suffer twitching or temporary paralysis, so it's a mixed bag!

...and then of course there's the hat hair 👀

In summer I have to be really careful I don't burn my face because of the scars. It can get a bit annoying having to keep slapping on sun cream but then again I want to keep myself safe. I love winter though!

Summer is hard because I don't swim in public, but I can wear floppy hats so that helps. Fall is difficult because of the wind. Winter is a challenge because knit hats and hoods make my visible difference more prominent. I like spring the best. It's not only so pretty, it also feels like a cloud is being lifted after winter. I get embarrassed when I try to hide my visible difference, like people know that's what I'm doing so they are more aware it bothers me. I try to pretend that I'm unaffected.
