Monday morning round-up

Good morning and welcome to the new week. I hope it's as good as it can be for everyone.

I'd just like to welcome any new members who joined us this week, whether they posted or not. I hope you'll find this community a welcoming and useful resource for you.

Next, thanks for a lively debate over the weekend on GPS trackers for those with dementia. I can now report back to my sister on all of your very valuable and valid opinions and suggestions. (I wish my sister would come and join us here herself, and perhaps I might be able to persuade her one day soon!)

I was so pleased to hear about the Herbert Protocol from lell1, as another means of keeping dementia sufferers safe, and I've pinned the post which explains about it, so it can be accessed easily if anyone has need of it in future.

Lastly thanks as always for all your contributions. It's good to hear from you all.

Wishing you all well in this coming week.

Hi Callendersgal and all of you wonderful people on this site.

I haven't been that active recently because I have been spending precious time with my parents.

My lovely dad who suffered from a condition called MSA (multiple system atrophy) passed away aged 82 on Friday 31st Jan. He was surrounded by his family and it was mercifully peaceful.

The condition had taken his mobility, speech and parts of his cognition, but he faced each hurdle with strength and resilience. I am in awe of his mental and physical strength in the face of such a beast of a disease.

In time, I hope to have happier memories of a kind, gentle father with a wicked sense of fun. He was the person who gave me my love of nature and who taught me the names of wild flowers and who supported me through thick and thin. As I am sure you all know, when you lose a parent, words cannot express the depth of your grief.

Thank you so much for all your support over the years. I will continue to remain in the group and will share the knowledge I have developed over these years of caring to try to help others. My wonderful mum is showing the signs of dementia so I think it would be beneficial to gain support for her. I really think that carers are the unsung heroes of society as you provide such an essential but largely hidden service.

Sending love to you all.

Thanks Helen, for a wonderful supportive post, and may I offer you my deepest condolences on the recent loss of your dad. He was clearly deeply loved and must be a huge loss to you all.

We totally understand that you have been less active on the forum recently. Problems arise and go away for us all in cycles and there's not always time to devote to being here much.

But it goes without saying that we hope you'll stick around in the longer term, whatever's happening. We highly value your expertise and knowledge of caring and you too have been a great support to others. Thinking of you at this time of such sorrow in your life and thanks for taking the time to write such a heartfelt post. Love and best wishes.

Thank you Helen. I am so glad that you will be staying with us on this site as you have posted such helpful things.

Like you I felt that the knowledge that we have gained has been at such a terrible price that it would be very wrong to waste it and also that any help we can give to other sufferers is in a way a memorial to your lovely dad and my husband. It will take time but you will find yourself remembering him as he was, not what he became.

Take care of yourself

Thank you Freda, for those words of comfort. You have expressed my thoughts entirely about staying on the site. My dad was so selfless and I am sure he would have wanted me to try to help others. Helen xx
