Good morning ,we lost Mum two weeks ago to dementia, she had been bound bound for a number of years ,was doubly incontinent and toward the end she had problems with swallowing,we had a team of carers who came in 4 times a day to change her and check on her. There was also a member of the family in the house at all times.Home care was always our choice for Mum who would have been 93 in January, having lost Dad 25 years ago.We are thankful that she is no longer suffering but miss her terribly, her passing has left us in limbo.Tomorrow is her funeral and she will be laid to rest with Dad. R.I.P Mum Irene Ellen Simpson we love and miss you.xxxx

You have given your dear mum the best of care. Hopefully that will be some solace at this difficult time. Funerals can be sad and stressful - I hope that your mum’s goes smoothly.

Good morning to you, I read your post with admiration for the way you and your family put in place a care plan for your dear mum.

Dementia is a cruel uncaring disease, l lost my mother-in-law to it in February, but your mum is now at peace. It’s natural to miss her but I’m sure her funeral will be a wonderful expression of love and mum’s now reunited with your dad.

Thinking of you all. Xxxx

Good morning irenesbabes,

Thanks so much for sharing that with us all. It’s a shining example of simple human family love and is awe-inspiring.

I hope that, through your grief at her passing, you are also feeling that warm glow which comes from having cared so well for your mum through her final journey. I hope that her coming funeral will be as much about your strength as a family and a celebration of your mum’s life as about your grief at her loss. Very best wishes to all of you.

Thinking of you and hoping funeral went well. My mom is now coming to the end of her journey with dementia and I know what you have been through, and also what I have yet to come. Carer to carer, may I send you a hug of support for all you have done for your mom and have endured in the process. It's not at all easy, but we can look back and be thankful we have chosen the path we did, and have given our loved ones all that we could.

I feel your pain as losing a mum ,to me,is one of the very worst pain to bear, and I am so glad you looked after her at home, for home is always where the heart is. I pray that you are given the strength to get through the next few days and months,it will not be easy, but you have done your very best for your dear mum always, and I salute you. But you must take care of you.

My very best wishes to you all in this very sad occassion. As you have probably read my posts above yours, I'm struggling with my mum who will also be 93 in January next year. Mum is also bed bound and incontinent, she has Alzhiemers and Vascular Dementia, 7 years now we have been looking after her here at home as we all live together. I would imagine from your post you were self funding to have a team of carers in? I am trying for CHC but am not hopeful. As much as the kids of your mum is huge, her journey is now over and she is at peace . I wish this for my mum now as I wouldn't wish this horrible disease in any one . Take Care . Loz

All very understandable at this time pet. It hurts but at the same time, you know it was best for your mum. Glad to see that you're still on the forum irenesbabes, you have a lot to offer the rest of us.

Don't forget, if you have an angry moment, go with it (so long as you don't hurt anyone, including yourself!), if you remember something funny, laugh, if you feel sad, cry if you want to!
