drink problems

I need advice to help me with my drunk partner. Constant denials, despite the hidden empty bottles, cans etc....have made it impossible to hold a conversation without starting a fight. Memory loss, violent and abusive behaviour has made me rethink my relationship....

Hello brizeebri,

Welcome to our community, but I'm not sure if we can be of the right sort of help that you need. I'm so sorry to hear of your problem, but help for someone who has alcohol abuse issues is quite specialised and neither this forum, nor any other that I can see on Healthunlocked as a whole, deals specifically with the things you are facing with your partner.

It might be of more benefit to try Drinkaware (drinkaware.co.uk) or Al-anon which specifically helps those people who have a family member with problems around alcohol misuse. That's al-anonuk.org.uk

I hope this information will be of help to you and that you can find the support which you need.

Very best wishes.

The reply to Brizeebi by Callendarsgal is absolutly right. I would like the add a remark which may be useful. At one time I ran an art centre and one of our client groups was dealing with a lot of people with drink problems. These were people who were trying to give it up - It was so hard even for the ones who were desperate to give up. They would come in one week so proud that they had been dry for three weeks and next week... back to the beginning. The lives of them and their families was almost ntirely centred on how long they could stay off the bottle. - and this was the ones who had accepted that they had a problem. I won't presume to give advice but I would never blame anyone who tooka long hard look at the situation and left.

Good luck and I hope you get help from these other people

So true Freda E that the first step to recovery, from alcohol or anything else that is destroying you, is to accept that you have the problem to begin with.
