Not really related to my caring role but...

To say I am stressed out of my mind would be an understatement, but for the past few months I have had problems using my left hand ,3 fingers are numb,so finally I did see my GP and I had xrays and last night I had an MRI scan at Southmead Hospital ,Bristol, and I was agreeably surprised how professional the entire procedure was,and Southmead is an amazing hospital ,and is just like a shopping Mall, plenty of food outlets to grab a coffee, the place is enormous and spotlessly clean, and much like an airport check in,i scanned my bar code, and then was directed to gate 18,where a nurse was waiting ,and escorted to the correct area, given a locker and keys to leave my coat and shoes, and then the scan which was easy peasy ,and then off home.

I have to say I have nothing but praise for the NHS ,and with a population of 65 million they do amazing things ,and of course they occasionally get things wrong, but that is understandable, and we often do expect far to much from our social services.

By the way....my flight was cancelled.!..lol.

Hi secrets22,

I have to say that I absolutely agree with you and feel we are spoiled in this country because treatment's free at point of access. I've lived in countries with no, or only very basic treatment available, and the worry that having to fund a medical emergency places on you is enormous. I had two such ops overseas and paid the best part of £7000 for each of them, not to mention on top of that for an anaesthetist, a hospital bed and nursing care plus medications. The care I got was marvellous, but no better than I receive here at home.

I'm glad you had such great care and found your experience a positive one. I think there are areas where hospitals have lost their way and there are many reasons for that. The pressures being placed on all medical services have complex reasons, all of which are going to have to be addressed before the shortcomings get better.

But delighted for you and always glad to read of a positive experience.
