Sort of Good Saturday

Hi All.

I have not been posting for sometime 9but have been reading when I had a chance) as life has been more than slightly manic. We finally got a move date and left our house for our new bungalow, 13 miles away, on July 3rd. Last move EVER I hope. Nigel went into respite for the day before, day of and day after move and we stayed at a travelodge overnight, which worked quite well without his hopsital bed. By the time he came here our furniture and his chair/bed etc were in place thanks to the help of wonderful friends, which caused him less disruption. I think we will be very happy here. Nigel loves being able to sit and look at the garden through the french windows, which in this weather, are nearly always open and the short flat distance between car and front door is so much easier for him (and me).

Life has, however, been very difficult and a real effort as my hip has become so much more painful and bending is impossible which is hard when one is moving and caring. The reason I am posting today is that luckily our new home is now in a state where I can let others (carers) sleep here and be here whilst I have my hip op on Tuesday and afterwards for 2 weeks, and because today Social Services have finally advised, in writing, that they will help with finances and support my decison not to put Nigel in a home whilst I am out of action.

He has, however, been getting anxious about me being away so we are having pretty bad nights. We managed to both get teeth and hair done yesterday with some difficulty but he told the hairdresser that we had moved in on Friday and that I was going to have an operation and that no one was going to be looking after him. I have spent ages organising a relay of carers so I hope he will finally understand that he has not been abandoned.

Love to you all Ali B.

Thank you Love Ali B but see new post x

Hello AliBee1

How lovely to have you back again and catch up with your latest news.

All in all it sounds pretty positive but I understand your hesitant heading!

On the plus side you've got through what is a major drama in life and are settling into your new home nicely, but on the other you've got a real challenge coming up.

And that's for you and for Nigel, so I can understand your disquiet.

You're such a great, sensible lady that I know you'll get through OK.

After all Nigel DOES have an army of people who are going to help him in your absence and although you'd like him to understand better, at least you know the practical side of things are taken care of.

That won't stop you worrying, I'm sure, but I hope you'll be able to take things moment by moment and before you know it, you'll be on the other side of recovery.

Very best wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery, and also to Nigel.

Good luck AliBee1 for you op on Tuesday, hope all goes well.

Sounds like you planned the move well with your local support network and that Nigel will be well looked after while you are out of action. Once he sees the army of help he’ll probably feel less anxious.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you both enjoy you both your new abode.

Hi AliBee1,

Yes, life can really change in a split second, and bringing with it a whole new set of worries. But I’m pleased to hear that your op can still go ahead. Try as best you can to focus on yourself and get yourself through this. Think of yourself as a life-support machine, (which you are), going into the workshop for vital repairs.

I wish you a very successful outcome to your op and that Nigel’s current crisis will resolve.

Very best wishes to you both.
