“In ancient times, cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this.” Terry Pratchett

Imagine running your fingers through warm, soft, silky fur. Picture a pair of adoring eyes looking at you from a head resting gently on your lap. Hearing rhythmic purring, or watching a happy wagging tail in constant motion. Bet you feel more relaxed already.

Pets are pure therapy for young and old. They are known to reduce blood pressure, prevent heart disease and combat loneliness. They are a great conversation opener and help owners, of whatever age, stick to a routine to maintain their pet’s wellbeing.

Has a pet helped your older loved one overcome a problem or health issue? Share your heart-warming stories on the Forum today. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

I didn't think of pets as helping people until it was mentioned here, but our cat Ambrosia helped my husband, Fred, who had advanced Parkinson's disease. After many cat years, Ambrosia grew too weak to stand. I still visualize Fred carrying Ambrosia around our garden, pointing out the bird bath, flowers and butterflies.
