Second day on here and this is my second post.Still waiting to see specialist since getting T nearly a year ago. Then it was a slight sound in the background now it feels like a relentless Tsunami and no further on with NHS and ENT.I wonder if the blood pressure tablets I am on are making it worse but who can I ask.I feel the noises are louder and I get NO restbite.Do I stop my tabs to see if I get relief.Doctors just change the type of my medication.Do I stop for a while and see?.So many questions with no answers.Getting desperate.

Hi Mixedsalad You're not alone. We're all here for you. There's a long wait for ENT at the moment. I waited over a year and I'm still waiting for HA's. In the end I asked my GP if she could do anything and she wrote to the hospital. It might be worth telling your GP that your tinnitus is getting worse and that you believe it might be the meds. It's best to take medical advice.

Thanks again for your reply.Yep will push as much as I can for answers. It seems to me GPs are clueless with T and will just refer you on which takes so much time. Thanks again

If your really desperate enquire about going privately , you could be seen within a week at ENT if your prepared to pay. It’s awful that it comes to such drastic measures,

The docs are referring you just to ensure there’s nothing sinister going on. ENT won’t necessarily offer you anything for T and depending on who you see could be a bit dismissive. That’s according to what I’ve read on this site over the last three years. Please do go to the British Tinnitus Association website for hints and tips and DO NOT believe any cures you see advertised unless endorsed by your own medic or the BTA.

Hi as everyone has said check with your GP about your medication see if they are willing to let you come off them I think this might depend on how high your blood pressure is. Tinnitus is horrible but the more you worry about it the worse it will get. Try to relax easier said than done I know but I use meditation and relaxation techniques off you tube. There are loads on there for free. My favourite is John Kabbat Zinn he does 10 15 and 20 minute guided meditation so try the 10 minute see how you get on. It might seem a bit mad and you might think you will hear the tinnitus more if you sit in silence but if you can go with it and relax it kind of diminishes the sound for a while. It took me quite a while to relax into it but now I do 20 minutes every morning. We are all different and eventually you will find something that helps you. I walk a lot and try to listen for the sounds of nature while walking which also helps me. I do a lot of gardening I'm always outside weather permitting as I find it helps but whatever you like to do normally see if you can do it and concentrate on it instead of the tinnitus sounds. If you can concentrate on something else the noise fades away for a while. Unfortunately it takes time to habituate but you will get there. As happyrosie suggested try the tinnitus website see if it can help you take care.

Many thanks for the meditation tip I will look into that. When my T suddenly got worse I phoned for doctors appointment regarding BP medication and was told I could not see gp as it was not urgent.Managed to see a nurse who sympathised and changed my BP medication.Wanted to know if there was a link between the two.BP medication widens the veins to help blood flow and just wondered if the two were connected.Still none the wiser.Again, thanks for your reply and advise.

Hi. I have had Tinnitus for many years, initially it was for about 6 months after my TBI. It then went away until two and a half years ago, now I have it constantly mostly in my right ear. The noise is like a high pitched alarm that’s in the distance. After many months of tests and scans carried out by ENT I was eventually fitted with two sound masking hearing aids. You get to choose which sound you would like to hear, I opted for the sound of the ocean!

They are to be worn whenever I find the tinnitus too much to cope with.

In my case it’s constantly annoying me but I generally wear them in the evenings at home.

ENT can not explain why the tinnitus came back again after so many years, it’s just one of those things.

The masking hearing aids do help to a degree, although I do get irritable easily since my TBI and the noise can be more annoying than the tinnitus at times! So, I can’t actually win either way!

I hope that you manage to get the help that you need from ENT.

The blood pressure tablets could well be making the T louder medication of all sorts can play havoc with the T as i found out using certain anxiety tablets. Regarding the ENT keep pestering your doctor and they will wright a urgent note to the ENT who will then see you quicker it worked for me. Please don't expect any help with your T they will just make sure you have no ear wax in if you have they will use micro suction to suck the wax out when they tried on me my wax was too hard and the noise was unbearable probably because my tinnitus was so loud i then had to put olive oil in for 2 weeks to soften the wax then i had them syringed also not a pleasant thing but it got the wax out . The ENT will then give you a hearing test and weather good or bad it doesn't really matter it doesn't help the T it just gives you a idea how your hearing is. they will ask you questions about your T but they will not give you any answers because they don't know any .There is absolutely no body out there who knows any thing about Tinnitus and i have searched the world and there is so many false hopes The only people who know what's going on is us Tinnitus sufferers and believe me your Tinnitus will ease. going back to the ENT you haft to go through that presager and then you can move on. If you are really. bad they will give you a mri or ct scan just to see if any thing shows up some thing i had done and mine was fine. The worst time for Tinnitus is when you first get it its terrifying if i had to give a tip it would be to try and stay away from any sort of medication only take it as a lost resort because your T WILL ease. All the best my friend remember your T WILL EASE and you WILL get used to it and your life WILL get better.

I’m sorry mixedsalad !! Perhaps these things might help you: 1. You must keep your blood pressure low as you can and is important to control whether you snore. 2. Take Magnesium L. Threonate (Only this Magnesium!!!) 3 hours before bed. Look for information, this magnesium is really good for brains. 3. Try taking Idebenone 4. Do you know Mimicking fasting diet of Walter Longo? In Argentina there aren't doctors to guide us with this diet, perhaps you can find one. 5. And finally homeopathy might help you too. I’m doing all of these and my T is going down little by little. I wish you much luck!!
