Why do random noises make Mr T stroppy?

Does anyone understand the mechanism or even have a theory whereby Mr T gets stirred up by random noises

Is it some subconscious flight and fight response that immediately gets him stirred up but subsequently takes a while for him to settle down to normal again?

It would be nice to know the science behind this but I know that this is impossible.

Would be still good to hear other people's theories even if a bit whacky !!!

Are there any theories out there please?

Peter

Good evening Peter,I have been asking myself for 18 months now the same questions . If you look back on past posts from people many have spoken out about different theories . It is a mystery and everyone on here has different symptoms , different noises , much discomfort and frustration . I cannot give you the answers , I can only say that you and I are not alone.

Hello rabbits65I am sure that most T people must ask this question

I have an ulterior motive for asking this question

My T gets louder towards the end of a motorbike ride and when I take my helmet off

I am taking every step conceivably possible to prevent more hearing damage and more noise when riding the motorbike

I need to convince myself that the noise is only transitory and is not increasing the baseline of my T for me to enjoy my ride

I really don't want to have to sell the motorbike:-((

Are ears muffled with a motorbike helmet on? It's maybe a wild theory but if so, could the brain be recognising that sounds are muffled and sort of turning up the volume after, which amplifies the tinnitus?

Thanks for replying XyZedI like your user name

Earplugs reduce outside noise to make it similar to being in a dead quiet bedroom where there is no noise and the T sounds more pronounced

However after being in a quiet room I don't think that there would be residual high T after leaving the room as is the case on the bike

I just know that Mr T is a devious chap who always has us on the back foot and guessing

There certain tones that really annoy the high pitch sound in my right ear which is pretty much 24/7 by now. I am a pianist so pitch is very sensitive if I play on an instrument that is out of tune or one of my choir members is off . It is strange that this happens. Other sounds like someone tapping on the side of a cup is another example. I can no longer go to a theater because the volume is too high and the surround sound makes me want to jump out of my seat. This condition certainly has many variations and we all have unique situations. I think sounds that a person was used to hearing before T have many effects on us. I believe useless sounds such as tapping or pitches really play a big part on how we experience this annoying condition. I still cannot figure why there are not any such cures available if technology can send a space ship to Mars. That really gets me going.

I agree elsiedams , it’s about time more useful research and results were available for this frustrating condition . 😊

I can understand your frustration being a pianist Yes how can we put men on the moon, send space craft to Mars yet be unable to eliminate the scrounge of tinnitus

Hello,Your sensitivity to sound could be hyperscusis, this can cause sound sensitivity

Hello Eleanor My T is 6 moths old now and I am starting to develop hyperacusis I don't quite understand why T leads to hyperacusis?

rabbits65 profile image
rabbits65

Not everyone with tinnitus gets hyperacusis , the same as not everyone who gets hyperacusis gets tinnitus. My mother had hyperacusis really badly , so badly even the sound of a knife and fork touching a plate was unbearable. She couldn’t go out in the end . She couldn’t be in a room with peoples voices . No TV. My mother died in 2019

Sorry to hear about your MotherBut thinking about it,there must be a connection between tinnitus and hyperacusis even although some folk get one but not the other

I often think when it comes to funding it comes down to many social factors as to where money goes. How many people that don’t have tinnitus have heard of it. It’s a silent condition outside of our circles. It needs far more exposure in the media etc. as to how life changing it can be

Probably well into the future they will figure it out..However for the here and now we have to manage with what we have

Notwithstanding we are lucky to live in an age where we have access to modern medicines.

I hate to think how it must have a couple of hundred years ago or more

I have received the message about the biobank and listened to the podcast and signed up to offer support if asked for. Living in hope that a cure may be found one day. Thinking of you all sharing this condition.
