The best hearing aids that can help with tinnitus

I have tried the NHS in the past they fitted me for one ear, I didn’t feel that they were helping and were itchy in my ear. I think it depends where you live as my brother has NHS hearing aids fitted in London and they are great.

I am returning the ones I got from spec savers, I didn’t feel that they were working that well and were itchy as well.

I am about to pay for 2 hearing aids from hidden hearing £2000 they seemed better. I have a lose of the high sounds in both ears.

Before I go ahead and pay for these, can any one recommend hearing aids that have helped with their hearing and their tinnitus.

I do live on the west coast of Scotland, which can be tricky when I need to present for a hearing test.

I sympathise Frog7749 I tried private HA's last year while waiting for the NHS. They made my ears feel sore & itchy. The audiologist wasn't very helpful - more or less saying that it was my ears not the aids at fault - so I returned them. I'm hoping for a better outcome with the NHS . All I would say is make sure you can get a refund if you need to. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Some people's ears are allergic to materials used to make ear domes, so it's not unheard of for there to be problems in obtaining a comfortable fit with hearing aids. The US-based audiology chain Healthy Hearing have a good break-down of the issues which can make hearing aids uncomfortable with some suggested fixes - healthyhearing.com/report/5...

Very interesting TinnitusUKPat I'm surprised the audiologist I saw didn't mention any of these things. He must've known but just wasn't willing to discuss it . It was dispiriting at the time.

Think it's hit and miss. I paid alot of money for mine from a well known chain of shops. The HA makes me itch if I have them in all day. The after sales service is poor as I have to make an appointment at the hearing centre to ask the audiologist one question noone on site is willing to help so I am taking up a whole appointment when someone in greater need has to wait☹️

Sorry to hear this Linley That's what happened to me. I could wear them for several hours or so but not all day. It was frustrating - especially as they made a difference . Can you ask your GP to refer you to Audiology? It might be worth a try .

Thanks Doglover1973 but informed the centre that I only needed 5 mins if that with the audiologist and as I had purchased the HA from them I should have the after sale service

Itchy skin is a side effect of some medications, I am on 10 tablets a day. I find the inconvenience well worth the benefit of hearing aids. if they caused infections it would be a different matter.

My Audiologist gave me his opinion. "There is no known cure for Tinnitus" "It is impossible to know for sure what caused it" "The NHS hearing aids are first class and there is no need to pay any more" He himself suffers from Tinnitus.

He did say counselling could help and he offered it, but I declined.

£2000 is a lot extra, make sure you get some sort of refund if they are no better than the aids you have.

Take Care

Mike

Unfortunately I think the NHS HA are different depending where you live, the NHS audiologist was good, but the 1 hearing aid didn’t help. I know now there is a very long waiting list for the NHS, I am ok going private, and though it is a lot of money, am happy to spend it if they work. I have 60 days to try them.

Can someone explain, are these medical items that can be on trial for whatever days including Hearing Aids Mattresses Etc, are they new or has someone else tried them?.

What happens to the ones that are returned as not satisfactory.

Hi Frog7749,I have NHS hearing aids, which I find helpful in helping me cope with Tinnitus.

You say you have problems with itchy ears, maybe you could try differant size domes, my NHS audiologist was very helpful and gave me various size domes to see which were comfortable.

If I am in a quiet situation I will turn on the built in masker sound of ocean waves.

The only negative regarding the hearing aids is when I take them out my Tinnitus seems very loud, but thats the problem with this dam thing we suffer!!

I had the same problem with tinnitus for a long time and then my friend recommended me to try Signia, which I bought here audiologyisland.com/ and they helped me to get rid of tinnitus. That's how I found my perfect hearing aids staten island.
