Hello Cattmc , I’m so sorry to hear your struggling , try sleeping with the radio on very low as you need your sleep . How old are your twins ? How lovely to have twins . If you do get diagnosed with tinnitus it does take awhile for your brain to adjust to it, try and keep as calm as possible , this might just be a temporary infection , get some scans organised from Ent dept. It is normal for them to test your hearing . Good that your hearing is fine , my hearing is fine too. I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight. 😴. Welcome to this forum , people on here are very friendly and helpful , but no doubt your get some posts in the morning now.

Hello Cattymc. When you first get tinnitus is is indeed very hard to deal with. I would urge you to have a look at the website of the British Tinnitus Association and in particular find the piece called "Take on Tinnitus". This will guide you through what you might expect.

While there is no cure as such, there is a lot that can be done to help. Please do NOT believe any advertisements you see for 'cures'. If you are thinking of buying something, have a look at the BTA website as there is a comprehensive list of stuff that is available and the BTA's recommendations.

The BTA have a helpline and a chatline.

Hi Cattymc Welcome to the forum 🙂 There are a range of things you can try for sleep from prescription meds thru to natural remedies . You could discuss with your GP . I started with Phenergan (over the counter) and moved onto 5HTP (a natural remedy) . It's early days for you. Things will improve as you adapt & adjust to the sound(s) . Relaxation & sound therapy are very useful. All the best with ENT and the results of the MRI .

Hi CatI tried hypnotherapy & whilst this has not stopped the noise (a bit like a constant dentist drill) I seem to care less about it & do not get fixated.

Also have the tv on constantly at low volume as bed time.

I don't like masking sounds. So when I can't sleep I listen to Steve Fry reading Harry Potter. It never fails to help me to dose off to sleep again. 😊

Hi Cattymc

I too was sitting on the bedside most of the night, My audiologist suggested learning my brain a sleep pattern similar to people who work unusual shifts

It is not easy but now I go to bed after midnight, the screaming is still in my ears but with music on my phone under the pillow I soon fall asleep

Apart from the odd night I sleep through until 5am sometimes 6am.

I get no relief from the Tinnitus and I am learning to live with it one day at a time.

Take Care

Mike

Hi Cat,I’m sorry that you have this experience.

On the BTA they have a link to the Oasis sound machine (£73) and the sound pillow (£33) which is what I use to help sleep.

I’ve had my T for about 8 years and ‘for me’ this works the best.

I joke that in a fire after the family I would save these two items first!

I’ll post a better reply later.

Stress and tiredness make things worse and with twins that’s going to be harder.

If people offer help and you trust them - do take it to get some you time.

Best Graham
