Change in tone

Hi everyone,

I'm posting about this issue out of curiosity.

The other day, just minding my own business, the sound in my right ear suddenly changed. It does change generally but this time there was an abrupt difference. Plus, the tinnitus in my left ear comes and goes. Does anyone else have these experiences?

Oh yes, msspinner! Speaking for myself, the sound doesn’t come and go in one ear or the other, but it does change in tone. I have an overall “badly tuned radio” all the time, which I can hear over the engine of a car travelling at sixty, and on top sometimes have a squeaking mouse. But I’ve read on this forum that we all have different sounds and hear them in different ways.

My word! For many years, I thought I could hear my neighbour's boiler at night (well, maybe I could) but when the buzz started in my right ear (not incident in the post), that's when I wondered if the tinnitus had been around for longer than I thought.

The weird and wonderful condition of having tinnitus , I find this to be a nightmare too . Generally my sounds are very much rooted and I imagine they are quite cosy in my head . If we are talking about ears then yes one ear is slightly different to the other . I think overall my whole head is affected. Because it’s nicely moved into my “ being” I try not to analyse things in details anymore. I tell T to leave me but I don’t think he will ever leave me. Try not to worry or think about it too much, worrying never solved anything. Luckily I don’t suffer any headaches , I do sincerely wish you well . 😊

Thank you! I'm fortunately not bothered by the T (most of the time). Just a bit surprised by the way it behaves sometimes 🙂

You seem to be in a good place with yours!

Well to be quite honest , T has been quite a life spoiler for me if I’m perfectly honest. What bothers me the most is the head pressure I’m feeling and I get balance issues too. The actual T noise is like a. “ hum”. but yes I’ve learnt to accept it and live with it but I do get days when I’m feeling quite low .

Well, I am sorry about that. Have you seen a doctor about the headaches and balance issues?

No it’s not headaches it is head pressure that’s not painful but gives me a full up feeling. The balance problem , if it feels bad then I take Stemetil tablets prescribed by the GP

Sorry for misunderstanding. I've not heard of head pressure before. Doesn't sound at all comfortable.

The pressure I’m feeling in my head is a bit difficult to explain. It’s not exactly painful but it’s like my head is filled with a fullness . The actual noise of tinnitus isn’t very much , more if a back ground hum. I’ve always maintained that I’ve not just got tinnitus . I keep myself as busy as possible in my life. I have two bouncy poodles and I try to keep cheerful 😃 🐩 🐩 Happy Christmas 🎄

Very cute 😍

Hi I have a (mostly) constant high hiss in both ears then get surges out of the blue if I'm bending down.

I try not to do this as I get vertigo. I also experience sudden surges if there is a sudden loud noise. I think I've got a bit of hyperacusis like many other T sufferers.

Over the course of around two weeks the noise builds up and I get an overlapping low tone with the high tone then I get ear pressure, pain and then my voice sounds hoarse. After this I get a day of peace then a faint hiss on the 2nd day and then it builds up steadily again from there.

I've been told I'm experiencing vestibular migraine. I'm not sure though. Anyway, I've been trying to tune out from it, distract myself. I like periods of quiet, other times the radio on low (Smooth FM) and just try out different things. I find talking very tiring so my social life has taken a battering. I enjoy birdsong and hearing running water! Love reading and luckily can concentrate on books ok.

Thanks for your post. It has helped. Good to be curious. All the best 👍

Thank you your interesting reply! Do you get tired talking because of T wearing you out? I'm glad you can concentrate when you read.

Think it is a combination of tinnitus plus sensorineural hearing loss which makes speech a bit distorted so I struggle with a lot of people talking and background noise. Thanks 📖

Me, too! I like quiet places in the middle of the day for socialing 😊

I've just realised I'm okay in a big group of spinners but then we're not shouting and there's no background music or barista machine 😂
