My audiologist has offered the hearing aids twice, and they are hearing aids-like in design and appearance, but what they do is put a customized noise-masking/balancing sound in your ears. The app is worked from your phone and they are rechargeable. I haven't bought them yet ($4000), although when I've tried them in the office, it does work. My issue is that I can't sleep in them. and that is when the tinnitus is the worst for me. Let me know what you think!

All I can say is that the T seems less, to me, when I’m wearing my aids. Because the real world is louder.

Hi Mike. It's sometimes the subtleties of hearing loss which tinnitus represents - it isn't that you're not hearing the majority of sounds, but some of the really fine detail in our hearing can naturally diminish as we get older (or from going to very loud gigs without knowing anything about earplugs - it was a pre-internet time...).

Let us know how things go for you and be open to the possibilities that hearing aids can deliver...

Well they are fitted including a white noise, did not realise how expensive they were, but supplied free from our NHS, the bus was making a right old racket coming home so they are working. been told not to wear them at night. will let you know how i get on. just noticed my mechanical keyboard noise when a key is pressed Lol.

Hi, I’m in exactly the same position. My hearing test showed that my hearing has definitely deteriorated with age BUT has little impact on my day to day life. I can hear people talk and the TV. The person I saw told me that the reason I have the noise (tinnitus) in my ear is because my brain is not receiving all the sounds it used to and therefore emits the sound I hear in my head. I was also told the aids would also tire my brain out so I won’t wake in the night. I haven’t committed to aids yet but I’m going back to the specialist to discuss.

They certainly do help reduce tinnitus. I would say by up to 25%NHS free.

Hi Pete, I am surprised it is only up to 25%. Although I can hear ringing in my head during the day my main issue is at night when I wake up at 4am EVERY morning and the noise is horrendous. Will they help with that?

Nick who told you hearing aids tire your brain out utter nonsense. I have had mine for 10 years. Still can remember at least 15 phone numbers.

Couldn’t live without mine, even sleep in them!!! Given permission to do so given level of T,, a wired through nhs for free, not by rip off private companies.

I had my new hearing aids in all day yesterday, I am still getting used to adjusting the volume to suite the environment, for instance our Memorial Hall has a wood floor which echo's sound and at the coffee morning I had to reduce the volume to almost zero. I can now hear the clock ticking and the click of my keyboard. but more important yesterday my tinnitus was less noticeable, First impression I think they are going to be a great help.

Great comments about hearing aids i may give them a go , price quoted was £1200 plus my first my reaction was I don't want hearing aids but as time progressed with my T so loud and constantly there I think I will go back and request NHS option . Not sure if you can use them to programme into your phone like the costly choice ? .I have slight hearing loss will they help me ?

Any advice on a which model I should go for please 🙂

Parrcj Mine are Phonak Nathos Auto M which were free on the NHS. the only thing i do not like is the fact that to turn them off at night you have to unclip the battery compartment. I can only think it is due to the small sensitive components.

Do your hearing aids have masking sounds fitted. If so, you’ll find them most helpful.

Yes 1 White Noise

I have pink noise but I’m sure they are as equally effective though it’s only a distracting aid.

Sid I find My Noise app downloaded to my phone, the rain noise helps me sleep, just place my phone under the pillow.

Yes I do that too at night as I struggle to sleep with no hearing aids.
