I have suffered with my ears from the age of 5 so I am used to the high pitched tinnitus, however for the past 6 years I have been getting crackling noises which really irritates me, I have been to the doctors and ENT but so far nothing has worked (ear drops, tablets). I have been referred back again but I am on a waiting list. Has anyone else suffered with crackling ears and is there anything that has helped?

I used olbas oil in a bowl, filled with hot water as a steam inhalation helped. It started with fluid behind both eardrums, right ear was really painful as the ear drum was bulging outwards, GP said. I ended up having a grommet inserted in right eardrum, terrible for a few months, a lot of noises were unbearable, cars sounded like jet engines, had to have time off wk as a teaching assistant, but after abt 4 months the eustacian tube dried up and was better, eased the tinnitus from the pressure a lot too. About 9 months later the grommet fell put and my hearing has thankfully returned to normal. I occasionally get tinnitus now, sometimes for few days, sometimes its for a few mins, crackling in both ears still when I swallow but easier. Hxx
I was supposed to have grommets fitted when I was little but for some reason my mum never allowed them to do it. I will try the steam inhalation and see if that helps until I can get to ENT. Thank you
No worries, I just remembered that a pharmacist said to also used metholated chrystals, only 1 in hot water, then put towel over yr head and inhale, not too close to the bowl, as its very strong, helps too tho. Hope you feel better sn, hxx
