Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ lynstone .....right now suffering with loud noises in middle of head anyhow Iโ€™ll definitely come out of it and habituate again ...thanks for replying . 5 years back I got Tinnitus due to anxiety problems caused by arthritis gout had many panic attacks I feel this triggered my Tinnitus

It's probably because you are now worrying about it. Remember you've habituated before so it's possible again. Stick with it, but there's no shame in seeking professional help. As per previous reply, maybe reflect on how you managed it previously.

Similarly Tinnitus didn't bother me for years - it was just a noise. A year ago it became intrusive and it's now 24/7. I've managed my Tinnitus through having strategies I learnt having gone through CBT in the past not related to T.

You need to identify what triggers your Tinnitus and what calms it down. I think suffers spend too much time looking for the magic bullet and believing the snake oil salesmen. It's really down to you and you individual journey.

Think it through carefully. Don't be dismayed, it will take time and resillience. Are there any patterns when it causes you distress? Equally, are the times you are able to cope or it doesn't bother you? Is the anything (an action) that calms it down? Trying to running away from it (so to speak) and mask it is not always helpful in the long term. Take time to acknowledge it, even listen to it (for a short time - even a few seconds).

Choose a particular response to a trigger. It may only be psychological, but it's what works for you.

Thinking about it and looking for the answers maybe stressful in itself. If so, don't over do it. Let your friends and loved ones know it's bothersome at that moment, even if it's a passing comment. Ive heard too often, "other people don't understand." It's true. But no more than you might understand their mind or ailments or what they might be going through.

What if there has only been 1 trigger years ago and it is continuously ringing?

daverussell profile image
daverussell in reply to ring-a-ding-ding

Sorry, I wasn't clear. By a trigger I mean and event or pattern of events when your Tinnitus is loud or is likely to cause you most stress.

One Question, guess we know the answer to, is there a cure??

daverussell profile image

We can't rule out one day there might be. At present it's futile to think so. Acceptance is key.

Oh yes. Tinnitus and tablets. T reacts badly to more drugs than many realize. Even the innocent-sounding paracetamol can trigger a nasty burst. Great news that things have calmed back down for you!

Hi, Sorry to hear your Tinnitus as returned and you unable to habituate at the moment.

As I am fairly new to Tinnitus could you please give me some advice on the best way to habituate. If I keep busy my T is not too bad, the problems start when I just want to sit and try to relax.

Hope you can habituate your T again soon.

Hi bantams ๐Ÿ‘‹ sorry to hear you got this annoying sounds recently jus now you started a long battle to fight , Definitely you will habituate and lead normal life & in middle of T journey you will have spikes jus like me should again habituate and move on !!

My advice to habituate is try to be busy as much as possible and not to use any external sounds To habituate , yes its very difficult but try not to use fans or external sounds .

Same thing happened to me but Iโ€™d habituated for nearly eight years! I got tinnitus when I was in my mid twenties then it came back recently after a blocked ear due to earwax and hasnโ€™t subsided since - Iโ€™m just hoping that Iโ€™ll habituate again like last time but it seems louder this time round (before I could drown it out with a fan whereas now I need something louder and it bothers me more hours of the day especially evening time)

But like others have said, youโ€™ve done it once so can do again it might take longer but at least you know itโ€™s possible. This is what I keep telling myself anyway

Hi MattyP101.... just reading your post... how did you get the ear wax removed, was it microsuction ? ๐Ÿ˜Š

MattyP101 profile image
MattyP101 in reply to Hillman51

Yes I had micro suction in both ears via spec savers - it didnโ€™t make the tinnitus worse like some people have reported but it didnโ€™t remove the tinnitus completely which I thought it might as was hoping just the earwax was the cause. My doctor believes maybe the ear block (which was for about 2 weeks) unmasked my tinnitus

I had microsuction done in July... have had a whistle in my ear ever since๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ... I had slight tinnitus before , but it was just like a fan running when everything was quiet.... he did work on the worst ear for about 15 minutes, and I really think that caused it,but it had to be done,I had gone deaf in that ear due to the wax.... just hoping the whistle might subside eventually... now some noises are too loud, you can,t win.... ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

You have my sympathies. I have had tinnitus at the same level for over 35 years and about 2 months ago I woke one morning and it was twice as loud with no apparent reason . I am now struggling also.

Hi suji

The same has happened to me recently.

I have resigned myself to having to accept the increase and try and habituate to the increased volume.

Hope you manage it also !

It's always recommended to consult a doctor. My uncle suffered through tinnitus for the better part of his life. He came across this solution a couple of months ago. You can check it out and see if it works for you too. Hope it helps... bit.ly/Tinnitus24Solution
