Hi does anyone have pulsatile T ? or the normal T .i have this PT since around 6 weeks ago . i have had a MRI (I A M )of ears and brain stem to rule out anything nasty which all came back clear . I am waiting for a appointment with the ENT doc , im just wondering what kind of tests he will do ? I suffer with quite bad HA and i am getting worried what they will do ...i had to be dosed up on diazepam to get me through the MRI ,i was a complete wreck ...

I have had pulsatile tinnitus for 3 and a half yrs. Also had CT scan and everything came back as normal. The consultant I saw did no other tests. I had hearing tests and they looked in my ears but theres nothing further they can do other than CT or MRI as far as I know. I also suffer with HA and my PT has really not helped this as I'm aware of my heart beat 24/7 which has made me paranoid about heart problems now although ECGs say all is fine. Don't worry about your appointment with ENT. I don't think they'll really do any further tests. Just discuss your MRI and maybe refer you for hearing therapy which is what I had - hypnotherapy etc if you would like it.

Hi and thank you for your reply .do you have it in both ears or just one ? Mine is my left ear only .. .I spoke with my doctor yesterday and asked if it could be my heart and she said no as my BP is normal and my cholesterol is fine .she said sometimes it can be a blocked blood vessel in the neck because the sound that we are hearing is blood flowing I have to say this has slightly concerned me ..she said the ENT doc can do an ultrasound on the neck to rule that out ...do you still have PT now and does it ever go quiet for you ? Mine does in the evening .x

Hi. Mine is in my left ear only too. Yes it is the sound of blood flowing through vessels that we are hearing. I still have it and it is 24/7 and never goes. It is quieter at times than others but no pattern really. My consultant and hearing therapy lady have sort of convinced me that there is nothing untoward going on and I have to accept that.

I agree with sazzyrich. Firstly don't worry about something unless you have to. I didn't have ECG but had MRI and ultrasound. If you haven't had hearing test yet then they'll most likely do that and if hearing loss may prescribe hearing aids. Normally the follow up is just to be released.

My PT is right only and rarely decreases. Worst at night and I have HA so can't sleep with playing music or sounds. You may wish to look for brown noise rather than white noise. I've had some periods where PT has stopped altogether for a few days but then comes back with vengeance for no reason that I can tell. I see a chiropractor and sometimes this helps but not always. The only other thing you could ask when you have your appointment is if it could be anything jaw related making it worse. Chances are you would know if that were the case. I myself grit my teeth and have ground them flatter and also have jaw tightness and this affects my jaw which is right near my ear.

Hope some of this helps.

Hi and once again thank you both for replying to me ...can you explain what you mean by brown noise ,all these different noises like white noise ,pink noise ,what is this lol .I'm sorry but I'm new to all this tinitus stuff .it helps to know I am not the only one with this anoying symptom or my anoying lodger I call it .I also think mine quietens down because I have been prescribed propanol which slows the heart rate down and lowers blood pressure but it helps with my anxiety .funny you should mention jaw related because I have false upper teeth and my own teeth on the bottom mayb its out of sync when I chew but surly why would it be PT if it's my jaw ..I will mention this at appointment when I get one .mine is a very high pitched sound what's yours sound like ? X

Mine is a low sound so maybe white noise would help you more. Brown noise is slightly less high pitched. I just mentioned jaw issues because I clench my teeth when stressed/lifting things and this gives me jaw pain which goes right up the sides of my head and it's very tense. The jaw joint is right next to your ears and I know if I bite my nails etc or move my jaw it has in tge past started/stopped the noise. They xrayed my jaw when I attended Sheffield hospital along with mri and ultrasound doppler on my neck. It's worth getting them to check everything as very hard to get additional appointments at a later date.

There's various apps available with different sounds that help some people. I'm taking part in a survey with a Norwegian doctor who has given me a brown and black sound to try. It may be worth asking to take part, his email is g.p.van.den.berg@rug.nl
