Sorry you are having it tough right now, lots of us are “there right now” or have been “there”, I don’t think their is an answer to your question in reality, however maybe someone has benefited , somehow, fro them for T ???. It’s a rough and unpleasant journey, the good news is many of us have come through it, ok, mr T , still there, but able to cope and live life,, sadly, no quick easy response, just the old chestnut,,, “it takes time”, keep facing the fight , I am sure it will get easier.

Hi Woodentop99,

Thank you for replying to me. You are right there is no correct answer for anyone as we are all so different. If there was a magic anti depressant we would all know about it. Unfortunately I have pain around my ear after many operations and anxiety particularly at the moment so suffering a bit at the moment. You sound like you are adapting quite well which is so good , always like hearing positive stories! I have a cochlear implant which I don’t think works that well. It’s been a long journey. Have you had tinnitus for long?

Thanks

Take care

First got the dreaded T after ear infection in Ibiza when I was 20 years old, ( now more than treble that!!!), anyway after probably a year or two I now know what is termed “ habitulised” and my brain switched off to me T and confined him to the parts of my brain that 99.9% switched him “OFF” for over 40 years, then just under two years the bigger somehow escaped his “inprisonment” and switched himself back. ON, probably 3 times as loud, I now know the word as “spiked” it just happened, I fell on the g sh loot to this intense high pitch whistle, unbearable, which in no time sent me off the rails so much so I ended up in the “ dark” place with only one way out!!!! I was incredibly lucky that my wife and security at a/e caught me otherwise I would not be writing this now, after months and months of HELL I managed somehow with the help of my dear wife( now much appreciated), audiologist, gp, and I found a meditation for anxiety video on YouTube by a lady called Adrienne lasts 14-14 and I followed this technique religiously, initially 3 times a day then , morning and night, immediately before bed( tip, you must have total silence) after many sessions I actually practiced what she said in my “head” without having to listen as I knew every word from start to finish, I really feel this was a massive help, though prior to this I would never have listened to anything like this as I thought it was nonsense.I tried everything in the book all cost money and all failed, however I did have x8 cat sessions which initially I was totally off my rocker and could not have told you my own name, the last x4 sessions I felt this was the “ cherry on the icing” which tipped me to believing life WAS worth living. I take nothing for granted, every day is a bonus, I am in charge of the unwanted visitor in my head right now, I fdo use use x2 maskers/hearing aids and I sleep in them with permission from audiologist,, without them mrT would break jail again,,,,, I am now fortunately well enough to run a,mr T support group in my area, though on hold at present we keep in touch though, and believe me when I say there are 1000s of folk out there like us, who can tell us every story in the book about T,,, many many successes thankfully who are happy to attend the meetings to show “ you can” beat this, not easy, a long road indeed, but there will be an end,,, just realized I have gone on and on , hope you are not asleep by now,,, regards nd keep fighting the fight.

Sertraline helped my mental state to then be able to start habituating. It did not aggravate the tinnitus in any way.

However it’s such a personal thing and everyone is different.
