Hello everyone , as you can read by my messages I’m going through a very rough stage with my tinnitus at the moment and have been prescribed some medication to help me. One anti depressant I have read is that amitriptyline for depression , I’m on another one at the moment which is aggravating my tinnitus .. baclofen which I think is aggravating my tinnitus. Has anyone tried amitriptline for depression .? Just looking for some normality in my life.

Oh dear it sounds v rough. I was given the antidepressant sertraline and it didn’t aggravate at all. Over time it helped to settle things down. I was on diazepam for 6 months on and off as well. I hope you can find some relief and keep speaking with ur mental health team til u get sorted. Best wishes. Cx

Know how you feel, Amiltriptyline is good for depression, as I take it, but I don't really know if it makes my Tinnitus worse, I have some really good days, but if I'm stressed I have bad days, I take 2 amitriptyline at night, and on bad days 3, ask your Doctor maybe, as I know some drugs are bad for Tinnitus, sorry to hear you're having a bad time, good luck to you, I know it's hard and a really horrible thing to have, would you be able to ask your Doctor to send you to ENT, as I have hearing aids now, I have much better days, they seem to work for me, I still have some bad days, but days if I'm stressed, I hope you can get some relief from your Tinnitus, try your Doctor I think the best thing, and refer to ENT the best people to help you, White noise maskers help me too, especially at night, apps from my tablet, different sounds, take care, best wishes, Anne N
Amitriptyline is a very old and proven anti depressant, though not as often prescribed these days due to newer medications, all these type of tablets take between 4/6 weeks to kick in, however side effects if any will come much quicker and usually subside after a few days, if persist see doctor, good luck and hope your T subsides somewhat.I notice from your other post you mentioned another type of medication, !!! Have a word with your doctor about all these different types of medication you are ? on, however I suspect sadly there are lots of other issues apart from T,, get a good, clear, medication plan which is regularly reviewed.
Hello thank you for your lovely encouraging message . I am doing it tough at the moment , I have had 7 operations on my ear over the past and now have a cochlear implant . So I’m looking for good pain killers and anti depressant which will not affect my tinnitus . I am seeing 2 Doctors , but the GP overlooked one pain killer that does contribute to tinnitus. I did the thing that Drs hate , I googled it all ! I’m not sure if you take anti depressants and don’t want to pry but have heard that amitriptyline is good and doesn’t affect the tinnitus .

Its my normal and helping me cope with a very demanding job and life. I know stress has played a big part in my life and I'm looking to reduce it and focus on what I love which is painting. Use tumeric . It is a root orange colour. And ginger. They are anti inflammatory. Use it fresh and cook in milk. Drink before bed. Or use powder in milk.
Or blend piece of ginger and tumeric together in milk.
