T and dizziness

Hello friends, I have had T for a few years, mostly in my right ear. I have noticed for a while now that the background noise basically stays the same, depending on how stressed I am, but I get a high pitched scratching noise and then feel dizzy. This can last for a few seconds then disappears, but then returns again quite quickly. I have noticed that this all becomes worse when my anxiety is at a high level or in the evenings, but It happens even when I feel relaxed. Please could I ask if anyone else gets this feeling? Thank you for any help you can give me.

Might be worth speaking to your GP to check for Meniere's - a condition that causes dizziness / vertigo and tinnitus.

Thank you for your reply. I have been tested for Meniere's, BPPV and had Epley Maneuver. Had MRI scan, no concerns there. I'm thinking it might be related to anxiety, I do over think and worry a lot. When I was first diagnosed with T I had a loud noise, similar to a running engine, but as time has gone on this has progressed, same backing sound but also intermittent high pitched scratching noise which is always accompanied by the dizzy, kind of electric buzzing sensation in my head.

It is worth seeing gp and asking for input. Some tinnitus services have counsellors. My mri was clear 2.5 years ago - so they were not concerned when I started getting sea legs last year. I have found switching medication to sleep helps more than exercises I was given. I find staying calm and accepting motion helps with management as a drift to sleep. I use mindfulness - focus on breath - not body scan. Audiology reassured me it was a balance disorder - I am better moving than static -but In the early days anxiety fed the symptoms.

Thank you for replying. Yes, I agree, staying calm certainly helps. Accepting the situation is hard, but from what I understand, it is a way forward. Anxiety can certainly add to the problem!

hey buddy, i get dizzy sometimes too, mainly going up and down stairs...dont know why, is it frustrating, YES, is it hard to deal with sometimes, YES....sometimes, trying to work it out only leaves you more frustrated and in the dark since NHS are less than helpful, acceptance is key.....i know its easy saying that...good times and bad, unfortunately

Peace

Hi, Thank you for getting back to me. It does help to know that others are in a similar situation. But I so wish there were answers and solutions for our health concerning T and connected issues. Acceptance is the key, I hope I'll be able to do that soon.

hi, hope your doing a bit better as your reading this, acceptance is key, but i feel that we get affected as much because we care.....getting to a place that you dont care about it can help.

unfortunately, i believe the answers we're looking for dont lie with the NHS, it lies somewhere else,

I feel the NHS keep looking under the same rock, expecting to get better/different results

Hi Lizbeth54 to cut a long story short after many years of almost exactly the same symptoms you describe and a great number of visits to my GP and the local Audiology and Neurology depts I was diagnosed with a Vestibular Balance Disorder on top of the T. I saw an excellent physio who taught me the Epley manoeuver (Canalith repositioning) it doesn't stop the balance problems but relieves the problem quickly and safely. Since practicing this manoeuvre the bouts of dizziness and vertigo have become less frequent and less debilitating. Start with your GP and don't take no for an answer.

Hi Green68, Thank you. My chiropractor showed me how to use the Epley maneuver a while ago. At that time he thought I probably had BPPV. I'll be seeing him soon and will ask him about this again. I have also been meditating for the past three years to help with the anxiety.

I'm really glad that your dizziness and vertigo has eased, long may it continue.
