What to do

As with many people on this forum, i have tinnitus which deeply impacts my life. I suffer from depression and take so many tablets that when i jump up and down i sound like a baby rattle, and i wear hearing aids. But like you all know that because tinnitus is not a visible affliction you are often classed as the person who is off sick again or the moody one.

When i tell people that i have tinnitus they ask me what that is, so i tell them that i have a constant whistle in my head and a heart beat noise that never stops. They say that it must be hard and that they couldn't imagine going through that, and in a way its true.

People without tinnitus can never imagine what its like. I ask people to imagine a world without silence, that it doesn't matter where you are or what time of the day it is, that it doesn't stop with headphones or earplugs and you cant just lock your self away from the noise, or even just go to bed at night and drift off to sleep because you have a rave in your head 24 hours a day seven days a week.

I also tell them that during the second world war and the Vietnam war constant sound/noise was used as a form of torture as it was classed as a sensory deprivation which caused anxiety and stress to their prisoners.
